i repaired this IBM Thinkpad T42 Laptop for my buddy but he got a new one for his graduation and said i could keep it. but it only has a 40 GB HDD with 1GB RAM. does that seem kinda small for your guys perspective?

yeah!! is it an old computer? jesus, 40gb is the standard size for a ide desktop computer. and ide is old..

That's pretty small, My netbook cam with a 250GB and 1GB ram, and I got it for $150

and btw my laptop has two hard drive partitions, c drive and d drive. my c drive can hold 230gb of space and my d drive can hold 345gb of space.. my laptop also has 4gb of ram.

Depends your use of it, if your only a web navigator and if you doen't download anything, it is good for you then! All depends...

40GB and 1GB of RAM is extremely small but it depends on what he will use it for. Since he just graduated I will guess that he will use it for college which that computer seems like it should get him through college. Even then just regular researching and papers can limit him due to the laptop.

Although, if you really want to make it fly, put a distro of Linux on it. Even Ubuntu will fly, but look at Debian, Mint, and more. If you want any help with this, just tell me. I'm a huge Thinkpad fan.
