The driving limit is 16 in Aus. So for the UK, i would say stay 17. Only one more year from what its ment to be going to.

stupid idea i think.

-16 year olds are still in school.
-Insuance would cost an arm and a leg for younger drivers.
-It would result in a big increase of car accidents.

That's strange as a year or two a go they were considering increasing the legal driving age to 18. After a very quick Google search it seems pretty obvious that decreasing the legal driving age is pretty much suicide.

Last year in the UK from March '10 - March '11, there were 1,870 accidents on the road. However, in the United States where the legal driving age is 16, not 17 like ours. There were 32,885 deaths on the road.

Now, the population of the UK is currently approximately 62 million. The population of the USA is 314 Million which is roughly 5X the population of the UK.

Multiply the UKs death rate bymotor vehicle by 5 and you get about 9,000. Compared to 32,000, that is a dramatic difference.

After learning that, now draw your own conclusions.
