r00t wrote Any reason he has to go mATX? For the case I'd suggest the Silverstone TJ08-E or PS07 because I can confirm the PH-TC14PE fits in them with the low-profile Samsung RAM. The PS07 is virtually idential to the TJ08, but with a different front panel and fan configuration. And you're right, screw the 3960X. No sense in going with it! For graphics, ask him what architecture he can use. AMD cards are great for a lot of GPGPU tasks at the moment, but Nvidia cards play very nice with a lot of pro software.

But the Fractal is so nice! I think I'll take my chances as the dimensions are relatively the same. If it kills us I'll take care of the RMA procedure, he's in no hurry to have it. As far as the video card, I'm still on the fence whether to go professional or regular. Though I am leaning more towards AMD for some reason.
I did message him a bit ago, he's one of those cool teachers you can be social with. He told me it was up to me and "whatever works best under the budget," so I'll have to do more searching, unless you could think of a ~$400 or less solution yourself I'd be glad to hear it.
I went with mATX because he doesn't need any extra expansion slots, and his office is a bit smallish so he told me the smaller the better.

Hmmmm. You want to do an ITX build instead in a case like the [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] You can cram a lot of hardware in there, but the high-end coolers would be a no-go. Not sure about sealed liquid coolers in this thing, which are an option. Is he shooting for an $1,100 budget?

Turns out my uncle wants to start PC gaming, him and I used to play quite a bit of Xbox about a year ago, but now he wants to play PC. He knows his way around computers so it won't be like talking to a 4 year old when I help him build his computer. He just wants to know how much money it will cost for a decent build. His budget is around $650-$750 bucks - his interest in games are Pretty much all Call of Duties, BF3, and some Counter Strike here and there.
Keep in mind I'm not asking you to put together a whole list of parts for me to buy for him, he just wants to know how much money it will cost for a decent build to play the games that I listed above with no problem of frame rate lag issues or the computer to get hot.

Anyways, if you could tell me (him technically, but you know what I mean) how much money it would cost, I will gladly +Rep ya.

tl;dr How much money will it cost for a decent build to run the games I listed without lag issues.

I would prefer for you to not to not waste your time with a build because God knows when he's going to order the parts, we're planning and then once we get everything sorted out, then I will most likely post in your Custom Build PC topic and we'll order the parts, but once again, don't know when that'll be.

BF3 is the only really demanding game there, but it seems you answered your question for me! If his budget is around $750 that's plenty to play all of those games well. That is... With the right selection of parts of course.

Jozhua wrote In GBP what would be a decent amount of money to build with. I'd need a computer that has alot of space as I will most likely be using it for store game-play and work files but I'll also need alot of Ram as I'll be multi-tasking on it aswell quite alot..

Unfortunately I can't give you a valid answer to this question as there are just too many variables to consider. How much do you actually want to spend? It does not have to be a lot, so don't feel like you're low-balling. I also don't know what games you have in mind, which is very important!

Well at the moment I have a budget of around 200 GBP since that's all the spare I have at the moment I'd be getting much more in the up coming months but for now that's my limit. I'll probably only be using the computer to store my game-play footage which will be games varying for Gears of war to Skyrim to whatever else so I know I big Hard drive is essential. The only games I'd probably actually play on it would probably be PSx emulators and such and RPG games like Skyrim and possibly borderlands 2.

Close, he's shooting for just under $2,000. I don't think there is any such thing as an X79 mITX board, as the socket would make up 50% of the board. And it doesn't need to be THAT small, but small, mATX is just fine. I showed him the build today, he's very happy with it. He just ordered the two Intel SSDs because they're only $109 (shell shocker), and he hopes to order the rest by the end of this week. I was getting a bit frustrated with the graphics card, so I suggested a 7950 and 660 Ti, though I am leaning towards the [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . Mostly due to its higher memory bandwidth and would probably be the better alternative in his situation. I gave the closed loops a thought, because we're not sure of the Phanteks fitting, maybe the [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] with these [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] in push/pull. Then I could reposition the stock exhaust as an intake on the top to blow air down on the VRMs, I read that they can get quite hot on this motherboard.
Any last suggestions?

hi my mum sent her computer in to computer store because it was slow and there saying its slow because
of the hard drive but I dont think it has any thing to do with it I think they are just trying to scam us they are charging us 130 for the hdd and I don't think it would cost that much because I have looked online and they are a lot cheaper

so is it because of the hard drive or are they trying to scam us?

thanks

They charge a lot for installation and it depends on the drive. Are you in the UK? Also this would have been something to post as a new topic in this section as it's got nothing to do with custom PCs.

do you think there is a big difference between a $500 USD build and a $700 USD build because im $150 off of a $500 build but my friends are suggesting to wait longer and make a $700. Whats your opinion?

Ill be playing games like
Black Ops 2
Counter Stike GO
Starcraft
Diablo 3

And using sofware like
Cinema 4D
Photoshop
AAE
Sony Vegas

The more money the better, you should never settle. Heck, I'm already saving up for my new build and I've only had mine for about a year? A $500 pc would do what you want, but $700 would provide substantial performance increases. The ideal sweet spot for video editors and REAL GFX users is $1,000 which I know from experience. Though you probably wouldn't need as much power as I think you do.
Bottom line, save up as much as possible!

Which gaming mice should i choose [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] , [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] or [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ?

I really like the Corsair because of the looks, buttons and its design but is laser and you say optical is better than laser so my second choice is the Mionix.
What should i do?
