But if everyone makes their own rules, noone can dictate how anyone else uses the internet bc that would (likely) interfere with that person(s) rule set, and then we are back to square one haha
Again , I'm not saying everyone should have their own rules or do as they like , I'm saying why should the government decide how the internet is run over somebody else?
Right. No one should, as its silly to think that an outside group can label them selves as rule creation/enforcement and decide how everyone should behave on a digital medium. If theres a will, someone will break any rule they deem stupid

Exactly my point.

Alright. I gotcha now lol. Very interesting way to look at it. We talked about it the other way in my Computer Science course and came to a very similar conclusion.

Thank you very much , I can't claim credit for this statement. Even though I still do believe in it.

Did your class come to a conclusion on who should decide rules , that if there should be any?
Or just to the conclusion that it isn't fair the government decide?

It was more along the lines that while there should be rules about what shouldnt be put on the internet (i.e. no child pornography etc.) it really isnt fair for there to be a single party who has the power to make up/enforce rules for the whole internet. We thought that maybe if there was an Internet wispde filter to weed out the illegal medium(forged documents, child porn, etc) rather than a governing body, that would be a better option.
We also came to the conclusion that that is highly unlikely, would likely be bypassable, and also...who decides what gets filtered? So that could lead back to the original point being made. There really is no fair, functional way to handle this

You can make rules. Doesn't mean people will follow them.

You seemed to have made the same mistake as the first person to reply.
It's not that we should all be able to make our own rules , the question is why does the government decide the rules and the punishments?
