People that say AMD CPUs don't last are fanboys and you should ignore them. Both AMD and Intel CPUs will last until long after they're garbage, even if they're overclocked (within reason, no suicide runs). There is still degradation, but that's common to all overclocking. Eventually, your CPU will require more voltage to hold the same clock speed.

r00t wrote The CPUBoss stats mean nothing... It's like the site is geared toward people that don't actually know what's going on. They use Passmark as the only benchmark?
The 4670K is a 4430 with a higher base and turbo clock. If you raised the turbo clock on a 4430 to the same as a 4670K, it would perform identically albeit with higher temps due to speed binning. Same with the 6350, it's a 6300 with a higher base/turbo clock. Of course they can be compared.

Cut the differences in scores in half and the 6350 is still destroyed by the 4430. If you want a fair fight, compare it to the 8320, and it's still blown out of the water with far less power consumption.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Again, cut the difference in half to make up for the lower base/turbo clocks of the 4430.
OP, if you want a cheaper CPU, yes, I'd 100% recommend the 6350, but it's by no means better than the 4430. Neither is AM3+ a better platform after Intel's socket refresh.
If you go with the 6350, I'd recommend:

EDIT: You can also get a nice deal in a combo with the 6350 and one of Cooler Master's TPC series coolers. They're very good.
They use other benchmarking programs besides passmark (3dmark11, Geekbench, etc.) it's just they only used passmark in that one for some reason. Yes the 4430 is better in single core performance by a margin of 10% or so but it by no means destroys the fx 6350. This extra 10% of single core performance will net you a <5 fps increase in gaming and is not worth the extra 50 bucks. I reccomended him an $830 setup that includes a full sized asrock mobo, an HD 7870 that comes with 4 free games, and a CPU that can be overclocked if he ever wishes to do so.
Don't buy a cooler yet, save the money get the better motherboard and learn about overclocking before you buy the cooler.

It doesn't seem to be 10% faster in lightly-threaded tasks, though, it's much more than that. I'm also not seeing a tiny gaming performance difference, I'm seeing a much larger one.

I want to see flaws in their testing, but the methodology is sound. It's completely valid for comparing the 4430 and the 6350 because the CPUs are at stock clocks, both AMD CPUs are Vishera, and Haswell performs similarly to Ivy with better clock-for-clock performance. I can't find any direct comparisons between a locked Haswell i5 and a 6350.

Lol dude we're not talking about the FX 8350 and the 3570k. But yes the 3570k is better than the 8350. EDITE: And yes the 4430 is better gaming wise also but if you're into gaming and you have a budget, there should be a slight imbalance on the CPU:GPU scale, i usually like to go with a slightly less expensive CPU and a more expensive GPU, especially since he said he would also be running dual monitors.
Our builds are like the same but i added an asrock extreme3 for future overclocking, that micro 760g board won't go far stability wise.

If anything, AMD has a huge advantage in the comparisons. Yes, they're valid, but I know it's a stretch because I can't find much. The 4430 performs very nearly as well as the 3570K at stock clocks and the architectures behave similarly. The hexacore Vishera CPUs are the same as the octacores but they lack one module.
As for the board, yes, it will overclock very well because it has a heatsinked and doubled 4+1 VRM. Same as the 970 Extreme3, but cheaper. It doesn't have SATA III, but even if you do use an SSD, they perform nearly identically on SATA II and SATA III unless you're doing lots of long sequential reads and writes.

Will the above build do what I was asking, if so I'm totally going to go with that one, and save that hundred bucks. lol I just figured I would have to spend at least $800 to get what I wanted it to do done.

Damn i didn't even notice that had SATA II, that kinda sucks . Can it even handle a 125W CPU? Honestly that's cheapier than that $65 one IMO lol. The Asrock Extreme boards are reliable and overall would be better than a micro ATX 760g board.

This build is perfect, don't mind our discussion on motherboards.

Hm, ok.... I think I will go with that one then, and I might even decide to splurge, and buy the case I REALLY want. lol Its expensive, but so damn sexy... Also, I dont mind the mobo discussion/arguement, I like how you guys just hijacked the thread. xD
