you can go back to the latest firmware by putting your device in recovery mode and restoring via iTunes.

Problem:
My iPod 3G will not play on music through the docking station. But it will charge. My brothers iPod will charge and play music through it and it is the same generation and same model.

My Firmware:
5.1.1

Brothers Firmware:
4.4.3

Docking Station:
Sony ICF-C05iP

It was working two days ago and is brand new.

I found a product description on the Best Buy website:

The ICF-CS15IP is Compatible with most iPod and iPhone models, including iPhone 4. Works with: iPod touch 2nd, 3rd, & 4th generations, iPod nano 3rd (video), 4th (video), 5th (video camera), & 6th generations, iPod classic, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G.

As your iPod is supported you should contact sony about this, they might ask you to update your firmware.
