You don't know that mommy and daddy are paying for all of it. Like I said, I paid for 12k of my car. You don't know how long this kid has been working for. If he's on his parents insurance plan, which he most likely will be, then insurance isn't going to be all that bad. Working a part time minimum wage job, I'd be able to afford a Mustang GT on my parents plan. I just fell in love with a Subaru more than a Mustang

Everyone on here just infers that there parents paid for there cars. Please tell me that "there's no way this kid is paying for any of his car" when you don't even know this kids name without looking on his profile.

12k is different than 50 and 60k. I paid 5k for my truck, I'm in it 16k now, and I bought another truck and have 4k in that (including purchase price). 10k isn't too hard, but 50 and 60k is impossible. I started working when I was 14, so let's say you start at 14, and buy your car at 16 (I bought my truck at 15, but what ever). That means you need 25k each year, which is 2083 each month, which is almost 70 bucks a day. I work for 10/hr, so that's 7 hours. How in the hell are you going to work 7 hours, do your 7 hours of school, get your homework done, eat dinner, and not to mention the time to get ready for school / work. Let's say everything is good, as soon as you get out of school you go straight to work for 7 hours a day. The problem is, where are you going to find work like that? You aren't. Another issue that comes into play is that min wage in Washington is about 10/hr, so no one has a problem with paying me that. In Georgia, minimum wage is half that at 5.15/hr, so a kid probably works at 5/hr.

I think 20k is reasonable for a kid to pull in over 2 years, I only worked the weekends for the first year because my parents had other things to do, and I was still making 200 each weekend, so 800/mo. Another 2 full days (people would often times give me a 100 dollar bill instead of 4 20's as a tip / out of laziness) and I would have been making 1k/mo. The issue though is not a lot of kids save their money. My brother got his pay check and it was gone by Tuesday.

All in all an expensive car like a Mustang is a horrible first car. Not only because odds are you didn't pay for it, but how can you afford it after the initial purchase? My brother owns a base model '13 Mustang with the 3.7L V6, and he pays 750/mo in insurance. I pay 37/mo for my truck, and they are both just daily drivers, just mine can do more than his, and if you are worried about how purrrrty it is, my truck is more noticeable and gets more compliments than his car. Anyway, back to the bills. So, you're going to school, making about 1k/mo, insurance takes 750 of that, gas probably takes another 50 in a month. Keep in mind my brother does not have full insurance and his is a 2 year old Mustang with the V6. The OP wants a '14 or '15 with the V8, he will probably be well over 1k/mo. Anyway, what happens if you back into something and break a tail light? There is a 1k repair for a friggen tail light (just one). The tail lights for my truck are a dime a dozen. So now you need a tail light so you don't get a ticket, how are you going to afford that after insurance? You won't. Not only that, what about those oil changes / general maintenance? Can you afford that? Probably not.

Just my opinion here...

Kids are young, high school is great. Be the hotshot in the mustang. don't be like the other 800 students rolling up in hondas.
- you only go to high school once.

- So what if someones parents buy them a car...are you jealous or something or them?
they now get to enjoy a great car while being young

- they crash, sucks..now you're driving a honda because they were stupid.
Respect what you are given. Who the hell disrespects a car they are given...wtf

The OP said his looking to to spend around 22k. Not 50k lol Your brothers insurance must be 750 a month because he has 243216 accidents and 489236437 speeding tickets lol My whole families insurance with 5 cars on it isn't even close to 750 a month. My buddy has a 2012 wrx with 2 speeding tickets and an accident and his is like $200 a month and hes on his own plan and hes 19. It's hard to believe that a v6 is 750 a month. Every six months would make way more sense. That is stupid expensive. Unless you live in the UK.

Your bros car gets less compliments that a v6 mustang cause its a v6. You turn a corner and there's like 40 of them on a one mile stretch lol v8's have much more respect. And no, your truck "can't do more". Each car is capable of doing something better than another. Your truck can go off road, but I bet that mustang will hit a corner 1000x better than your lifted truck.

General maintenance isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is. An oil change every 5k miles. Do it yourself for like $35-$40. And then there's the every 50k miles or so things you have to do which gives you plenty of time to save up.
