Well, I am a 17 year old from FL. Being told almost everyday its BS I don't have a job, and Its BS I don't buy my own shit. Well to be completely honest its pretty hard for anyone 15+ to get jobs nowadays. I have been almost everywhere. All these places are not hiring 16+ they only hire people 18+ which is pretty annoying. How are people our age suppose to get a job history, money, and the feel of being an adult if we can't start working till we are 18. I know a lot of people will come up with an excuse like.. You need to worry about school, and you need to worry about other things at this age. But when it comes to "buying" things, people say stuff like "Don't you work?" "Get a job" "Have your parents buy you it". Its almost impossible to do either of those things nowadays because of the job market. Anyone else on TTG feel my pain?

It's gonna be hard. It always is, especially at your age. All you can do is keep trying. Jobs for you will be scarce but there are some.

If you cant find a job at 17 you are not trying hard enough. From employers I have been told that they love having kids in high school because they dont have to pay them much. I found a job right away at 16 years old working on a golf course. Full time, 40-50 hours a week, about $600 every two weeks for a pay stub. I know for a fact theres golf courses in Florida (;

You're applying for the wrong jobs, and the issue may be how you sell yourself to your employer. Take a step back, make a resume based on what you achieved in school and go around to some of the "Mom and Pop" places to apply. Appeal to their needs and bust your a** if they hire you. Most people are looking for a specific job and get angry when they don't get it, if you really want a job, you can find one.
This post might help you out as well.

I understand but really that's just modern day life, getting jobs these or for most people I know in the UK, its more of who you know, not what you know.

You might have great grades etc and stuff end of the day everyone can learn tricks of the trade and the basics unless it's a job were you need to specialize in something i'm 19 now and have worked in 5 different jobs of course through high school since 16 i was in Mc'Donalds, left after high school, then worked in JD, Tesco, Local Gym, now I'm in virgin gym.

All because I knew people who already worked there to put in a good word for me, it will take time lower your standards apply for everything and anything within reason and you'll get your lucky break.

After the first job it get's easier good luck my friend.

It is hard to get a job at a real company, but I'm 17 as well, I've never worked for a company, and I have 10k in the bank, and 16k in my truck. I just put out ads offering to mow your lawn, and things stem from there. Just from ads to mow lawns I've graveled driveways, I've built decks I've done siding / skirting, I've done a ton of crap that makes me a lot of money and gets me skill.

Put a few ads out on Craigslist offering to mow lawns or something. I had no start up equipment, I'd use your mower, your rake, and it was up to you to dump the grass. I'd have to have my mom drive me to work, take the bus, or walk.

I know what you mean, when I was in school we had a work experience class where you can get an actual job and you get more credits too for HS, its not a bad class to be honest since it gives you a chance to boost up your resume. If your school has something like that try to get in there. Chances are you will actually get hired by that place if they like you.
