From what I've seen on the site, Americans have mixed views. Some love guns, some don't mind them and some hate them.

Search "gun laws" into the topic search and have a look at some of the topics, there's some really interesting opinions there.

Personally, I don't think that a ban would work because there's already so many guns in America. You could however, put restriction after restriction in place and eventually after twenty or thirty years, gun ownership figures would be down and there would be less handguns or rifles (depending on what type of guns you were planning on banning).

Guns can be really good or bad. You can use them for target practice or hunting for food. Or, you could use them for the wrong reasons such as killing.

Not a fan of guns. I shot a few and it was fun, but I can't overlook how deadly they are and what they are made to do. I understand they aren't going anywhere though. We have way too many. Only if we as a people want to move away from them will that change.

A gun is a gun. No matter what calibre, mm etc. 1 bullet could change everything. Same with knifes. I do not agree with guns nor do i agree with pocket knifes/combat knifes. They both/all have 1 thing in common and that is to do some serious damage to a person or something. I am 100% against them UNLESS! It is pure self defence.

If this was a new country Id say we shouldnt have them because people with mental issues will get their hands on them. That is what is happening thats why we have such a problem. However a big chunk of our population already has guns and you cant just take them away from people, good luck with that and criminals would most likely keep theirs in that situation. So its a pretty tricky situation at best

It's not a problem, 0.003% of the population get shot every year, that's not a problem. More people die from car accidents. Hell, over 200k people die EVERY YEAR from medical mistakes. That's more of a problem than the 10k that get shot.

With that being said, you know where I stand with guns. They are great, nothing more should be done to impede my rights, and that's all there is to the story.

Guns are 100% safe. They don't fire them selves, they don't aim at people, and they don't kill. The person behind the gun on the other hand...

This isn't to show you up, so don't take offence, just wanted to add the actual numbers into the discussion -

Statistics from 2014 (Most recent available) show that just over 0.01% of the population were fatally injured by firearms during that year (33,736 deaths - 318 million pop.)

Deaths by RTC (Road Traffic Collision) were 33,804, only 68 more deaths than caused by firearms.

As we all know, 2016 has been a very poor year in terms of firearms incidents in the United States so whilst those figures are almost 2 years old, they're the most accurate currently available but i would expect an increase on those numbers when the 2016 statistics are released, though the increase in population to around 324 million will likely offset the inevitable increase in firearms related deaths.

I only ever use a gun twice a year. Once to practice and get it scoped in, and when I actually hunt with it.

First day of hunting (deer in PA) was today, didn't even shoot it because we didn't see anything. Might go a few more times this season, but that will be it for the gun for this year until about October of next year. Stays in the gun cabinet the rest of the time.
