Personally would agree with the fact he hasn't governed the success we want of late, but this year I'd say he's done a good job. He's made some good signings, also made a great call with Coquelin, who I think is currently one of the best defensive midfielders in the league. We also are favourites to go on and win the FA cup (retain it), which is no mean feat. We are also in a position (admittedly a very very unlikely scenario) where we are still in contention for the league with 6 games to go. Given how little money we spend in comparison to United/Chelsea/City, I think it would be fair to say Wenger is the best performing manager at the moment in the PL bar Jose.

Is Jose the best performing manager at this time?

He is the best manager in the leauge by far , Im not sure if he is the performing manager right now though. He doesent need to be , We just need to get results.

Wenger isnt doing bad this season but its the fact it took him 8 years , And even this season , If he performed half decent in the first half of the season he might be in our spot right now but he could only get the team to perform the second half of the season.

Well the reason I say Jose is the best performing manager is because he is grinding out results, and that is what you need to be champions. I vaguely recall reading someone claiming that goalkeeper errors are saving you, but in reality thats just wrong. You guys aren't performing at your optimum and you are still getting your late 1-0s which is the making of true winners. This is how United won the title time and time again under SAF, it wasn't always pretty, but with 38 games a season it never will be.

I think it'll be interesting from now however, with only Drogba up top, and a strong looking United and Arsenal to play, I don't think the league is quite as clear cut as everyone thought it would be at this stage.

But yeah back to the Wenger matter, as you say, we are referring to him in the present, and I would say he is showing his greatness currently.

And lest we forget the U turn VG has performed at United. Set his target of top 4 with United and it's looking increasingly likely. The top 3 are in their rightful spots on performances this season, I would say.

Wenger had a stroke of genius signing Sanchez. Giroud in form, they're playing fantastically as of late.

I dont doubt that Arsene and LVG are doing good right now.

The thing about "Greatness" however it doesent come from just a few matches , Greatness comes from consistency , All season long , For season after season after season.

For me Arsene's greatness was well established when he turned the club into what it was from the late 90s all the way to 05 until the decline started, but we should remember that we only came to expect Arsenal to succeed the way we do today because of Arsene, we weren't happy with 4th season in season out because we saw what Arsene turned the club into. Without him, we'd probably be happy with champions league season in season out right now.

You're consistently in the biggest club competition, which is good for investors. Maybe the step up would maybe not the PL, but the CL? If he can win that before he retires, it'd be a great career.

Louis Van Gaal has already proved he is a top manager.
He went unbeaten in the CL and Eridivisie and won the league two more times.
He has also won two league titles with Barca, the copa del rey and won the bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
He signed Robben from Real Madrid and started Thomas Muller.
He also made it to the semi finals of the world cup and only lost out due to penalties.

Yeah I'm sure winning the CL would've been on his managerial bucket list, however, given the strength of most CL competitors I think its more likely we'd win the league than a CL title before Wenger retires.

"Only lost due to penalties"

Why do people say shit like this?
Penalties is apart of training a squad , Espically in a tournement like a WC or CL.
Losing due to "Penalties" is the same as losing in normal time , He lost thats it.
