Symptom wrote3CH wroteSymptom wrote3CH wrote You're probably way over your bandwidth or the router is. I'm a big BIG hater of integrated modems. They bottle neck the ever living hell out of your network and restrict your control over your own network. What I would suggest doing is contacting your ISP w all devices connected to the modem and tell them which device you're having issues with. Tell them you believe it is getting throttled, even if it isn't, so they will ACTUALLY take a look into your traffic patterns and not just tell you they have to send a tech out. I would also suggest resetting the network completely, forgetting the internet on all of the devices and then reconnecting them one by one but starting with the Xbox. It depends how your integrated modem is programmed - but this may be an easy fix for your issue. I used to be a tech lead for an ISP and I will almost bet 80% of your issue is that integrated router/modem. It was so so common for people to call with issues - only for me to have to tell them the amount of traffic they're trying to use cannot be handled through their modem at their desired speeds. The other 20% is probably related to having too much traffic for your internet package. |

ttghanman wroteSymptom wrote3CH wroteSymptom wrote3CH wrote You're probably way over your bandwidth or the router is. The most annoying thing is it says 100% wireless strength and only a 42ms latency and no packet loss but soon as I go to play a game it instantly goes straight up to 140ms then 150ms and so on but then next min I'm in a game at 52ms ping and it's steady for 5-10 min then it's a waiting game again and yeah I might just have to go for the Ethernet, was hoping that wireless would be alot better these days but still can only hope for a day without having to use wires again lol til then I best go order a new cable , thank you for the help man I really appreciate it. |

Just drill a small hole, like a 3/8 drill bit or punch is all you need. Run it out of the back of the modem right into your xbox. You'll solve every connection issue or speed issue you've ever had |

3CH is right (I used to work for VM Faults). It is always better to turn the Hub (from any provider) into a Modem from within the config page and then install your own router, it will give you a lot more control but will also reduce significant issues such as wireless strength, throughput and so on.
When it comes to gaming I always recommend the usage of Ethernet over wireless 100%. I personally play games on PC but have the old Xbox sitting there and sometimes get on. Cabled has no issues at all, usually on Xbox I see like 300Mbps but that is the usual from several tests across my area on multiple drop cables and so on. PC wise I see 500Mbps download consistent and my ping is always lower than anyone else I play with. If an ethernet cable is not an option as you do not want the cable running around your house I would recommend a wireless booster with ethernet support. This way you can amplify your wireless across your home and still run wired on your console. It'll use your house electrics to offer you the best alternative to a 1:1 connection to your modem. |
