As of today, the requirement for receiving the Game Reviewer badge is being changed from 50 reviews, to 20. The reasoning behind this is that it's been decided that the original 50 number is fairly daunting to those who might be interested in going for the badge/creating reviews.

Hopefully this will encourage more activity in the section. I'm going to go through and find the Members who already have reviews >= 20, but less than the former 50, and award them the badge. If you meet this requirement please inform me and I'll make sure you are given the award, as there's no other way for me to check this other than going through each page of the section finding each members posts manually.

I'm aware that there is the possibility of current Game Reviewers being upset over this change, however I hope that you guys can understand where I am coming from on this, as the section has gone through changes in the past few years (Higher quality expectations from reviews, removal of apps/mobile games for example), and so I think it was imperative that changes were made as it's obvious to most anyone who browses the section that activity is low.

If anyone has questions regarding this just let me know.

so, us members who put work into getting the badge ( 50 submissions I'm talking about ) aren't compensated with anything?

Awesome.

I thought this over but couldn't come to a conclusion of what, obviously something like a "Game Reviewer+" badge (which sounds weird so that's just an example) comes to mind, but I don't see that being added to be honest.

I'm not against the badge and I agree that having no other addition for the 50+ reviewers is weak, but Sean is the only guy that can make the final decision on adding a badge.

Honestly, the Game Reviewer badge should just be settled as it is stated under the requirements; "Issued to those who frequently submit game reviews in the Game Reviews forum." Having it based on how many reviews you submitted is unfair as video games vary by its core gameplay. Some games can be reviewed in a few seconds because of how foul or short the game was, others can put hours into a review.

The badge should be moderated by staff and handed out by them on their terms as of most of the other Special Badges are required.

I can see that working too, but how it is atm is setup in a way so users have a set goal to reach, because you'll always have the people asking "I submitted 70 app reviews yesterday why can't I have the badge??". This way there's a discernable milestone for people to strive towards and track progress.
