Looking to enrol in an open university course in the upcoming months, want to get a MacBook Pro to do a lot of my work on as my main pc booting system etc has shat itself and laptops are so much handier anyways as I will be taking it everywhere with me to study in my spare time everywhere I go.

I know there's better and cheaper etc but bottom line I'm looking for a MacBook but obviously with that you pay a hefty Apple tax, anyone any good at finding good deals on MacBook Pro'? preferably in the last 2-3 years, 15"

Not the best bargain hunter myself and couldn't tell you the difference between an add that's a piss take and one that's a good deal!

Plus rep to anyone that gives some useful pointers or ideas on what way to approach it best!

Cheers guys

Update:

I've been looking around and I'm going for late 2016 / 17 model 15inch, with a few weeks of research and being able to deal w the keyboard I'm happy enough that this is the one I'm going for, most listings I've seen are around £1100 - £1500 for late 2016/17 2.7-2.8ghz i7 16gb 256gb (usually) 15 inch.

Is this a good price range for the specs provided, should I continue to look for better deals and lower prices? I'm not really a bidding kind of person more of a buy it now type of guy. Any suggestions?

If you aren't too worried about the computer being used, you can always look on ebay or craigslist. I'm sure you could find a good deal on there but I would make sure that the laptop still runs nicely.

EDIT: A quick search on ebay and I was able to find refurbished macbook pros for under the price you were looking at and some were offering 1 year warranties on them as well.

I was seeing a lot of refurbs also! But my worry is with the amount of scams and bs posts I'm being very cautious of large MacBook Pro resellers to try and avoid disappointment as well as miss leading upgrades etc!!

Tyvm for reply!

Save yourself some money and avoid Apple tax. Buy a Thinkpad. They offer lots of different models. Check out the X series. Good hardware, good support, and good prices.

See I was thinking about that myself also, I've always for years and years wanted to get into the MacBook "ecosystem", and financially now is the time if I find the right deal, I'm happy to pay the Apple tax for the fact of owning it tbh I don't normally do this stuff w companies and it'll last me a good 4 years anyways so going to keep trying to find a good deal first and if something far better and cheaper comes up I'll probably take it

Yeah I recently just got out of Apples MacBook ecosystem. MacOS is pretty terrible in my opinion. It's like the worst of both windows and Linux. The only good thing is the screen.

I'm definitely just buying into the whole "Apple" thing, with having the watch and phone I feel the unnecessary need to also follow suit w the MacBook, will probably be a mistake I learn from but I'm interested to try it for a few years just w the handiness of the pass off system and familiar layouts etc. I'll see what I come across I suppose I'm not going to hugely overspend if I don't find a deal within the next few weeks that I'm genuinely interested in I'll definitely research into other means as there is 100% better for cheaper

I completely agree. Very confusing and not user-friendly in my opinion. However, they would be a good bet for what StatTrak is looking for. It seems like the battery life on Macs are great, so it wouldn't be an issue of constantly having to carry a charger with you everywhere you go. Battery life will always diminish with age, as that goes for everything, but I don't think it will be a issue until a bit down the road.

I used to be the same tbh going from windows my entire life from young to now in my twenties but I find the aesthetic pleasing both in the physical shape size and look as well and the outlook on the actual software itself. Looking at clean, simple and handy to use both battery wise and to just throw in a bag to take to work to do my part time studying on my work breaks etc. Like I said for the mean time I'll probably keep an eye out to try and get somewhat of a decent deal on a MacBook and if I can't find anything I'll most definitely be back here looking for recommendations of a laptop to carry around
