Rauben wrote I'm not sure if I want to get a 3080 when it's in stock or wait for AMD's new GPUs and then get an AMD CPU which pairs with it. You don't have to pair an AMD CPU with an AMD GPU. That said, you should probably be buying an AMD CPU right now anyway, Ryzen just makes way more sense than Intel in the vast majority of situations. As for GPU, I'd be waiting on proper benchmarks of the RX 6800 + 6800XT, and then possibly considering one of those. Don't quite have enough info yet, but they look like fairly promising GPU's. If you can find an RTX 3070 or 3080 in stock, then those still seem fairly decent options. The 6800 isn't much more than a 3070 and seems to offer a decent bit of extra performance, so I'd probably only take the 3070 if you really wanted to save the money. The 3080 looks more competitive with the 6800XT than 3070+6800 it seems, but the 6800XT saves you some money over 3080 for a little extra performance(hopefully). Will still need to wait for the RX 6800+6800XT to launch, and then take a look at proper benchmarks to make sure performance is as expected. If you've any interest in RTX and/or DLSS, then you'll want to go with the NVidia option in your price range. Also if you're streaming, the NVidia option might be the better choice. Rauben wrote Also how much are motherboards that would have the capability of running with the new GPUs/ CPUs I mean, the motherboard doesn't really matter for GPU compatibility. As for CPU compatibility, it depends which CPU you're going to be buying. Assuming some sort of mid ranged - high end Ryzen CPU, I'd be spending at least £100ish on a good B450 motherboard, or around £150 for B550. Yeah, I think you're right about the new GPUs being released by both parties we don't have much to go off atm so ill hold off until there's more conclusive info out there.
So for now ill pick up a new motherboard and AMD CPU. Do you have any recommendations in mind? Budget for the motherboard would be anywhere in between £100-£150 but id much rather spend less on the motherboard to put more towards to CPU. And as for an AMD CPU I have never actually owned one or even looked into them so I'm not too sure what budget id be looking at Thanks for your help 21 |

If you're going for a CPU/Mobo upgrade first, then yeah, AM4 is a no brainer at this point IMO.
So an Asus Prime B550 Plus for just under £150 is a really solid option; uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/TR848...-b550-plus but if you'd rather save some money, then a B450 Tomahawk MAX for just under £100 will do perfectly fine; uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/jcYQz...mahawk-max As for which CPU you should get, most likely a Ryzen 5 SKU, but it depends on your budget for CPU when you're buying. An R5 3600 should set you back around £180, that's where I'd start. Then, if you have an extra 100 quid for CPU, you can consider an R5 5600X or R7 3700X. R5 5600X for newer architecture with better single core performance, or 3700X for the 2 extra cores |

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I afford to buy the B450 Tomahawk and Ryzen 7 3700X now.
That being said do you think it might be worth waiting out for the R5 5600X? Because then I could invest more in the GPU? |

R7 3700X and R5 5600X are the same price, so in your case I would probably take the 5600x over the 3700X for the better single core performance. Either that, or just save the 100 quid and get the R5 3600. |

Yup, should be on sale November 5th. I think it shouldn't be too difficult to get one on release day, but there's a lot of demand so they might sell out pretty quickly. If you miss the first hatch though, the 2nd shouldn't be far behind and I doubt they'll have trouble keeping the shelves stocked. |
