DualShock 4 With Added Buttons Patented By Sony

4.5
The DualShock 4 may be a very good controller – and it really is, it is Sony’s best controller yet – but Sony have consistently lagged behind Microsoft when it comes to controllers this generation. The Xbox One controller was rather great to begin with, and then, with the modular Xbox One Elite controller, Microsoft created what might be the best controller ever.

So it’s good to see indications of Sony trying to experiment with their own controllers some, too. According to NeoGAF user Kyoufu, Sony have filed a patent for a new controller, which seems to be adding additional buttons to the DualShock 4 design, buttons added to the grips, not unlike the paddles on the Elite controller, or even the Steam Controller, but potentially more ergonomic. Meanwhile, it seems as though the Option and Share button have been moved to under the face buttons and D-pad.

It is unclear whether this is something Sony intend to put out a controller like this for the PS4, or if it is for future experimentation. Patents for future products are often filed with drawings of current products, often to avoid leaks, and sometimes because the future products in question don’t have any physical form yet. Hopefully this is something Sony will look at doing this generation- maybe make this new controller pack-in with the PS4 Neo?

dah Not a fan of the PS4 Controllers to be fair, I play with my PS4 Scuff Controller so I don't need to worry about the controller features/updates.

Same here :P Scuf controllers are the best

Not the best, once you have an issue it all goes down hill. I own a scuf one controller and it was all but issues, and it took 3 times to send it in to get it in working condition. Oh and it cost me 68 dollars to get one of the thumb sticks fixed, rip off.

I won my Scuff Controller on Twitter so I didn't pay for it. Saved me $250 so I'm pleases about that! Haven't had issues yet but time will tell.. I have heard about Scuff Controllers that break and go bang in a way.

It says Sony has lagged behind Microsoft with controllers this generation? I think they have always lagged behind Microsoft, because I personally think the Xbox 360 controller was the best, while the PS3 controller just sucked!

Lyttle I won't be buying a new PS4 controller, but that opening line shocked me, sure microsoft has a "better" controller, talking about the elite and whatever the 3.5mm jack but the durablity of an xbox one controller is laughable, a majority of the elite controllers came with an issue out the box they wouldn't fix.

I own an Elite controller and I haven't had any issues yet, I have a scuf that has cost me a lot more money than what an elite costs in just repairs. When i bought my elite from amazon I picked up a 2 year plan with Squaretrade, you should've done the same. Here in the Us we only get 90 days of warranty with the Elite, Europe gets 2 years.

This looks very much like a scuff controller.

Wow, I would not think Sony would create something like this, This is kinda like scuff just in a different form, I miss having my scuff so now when I play games I play stick and move, But I would be gladly to try this out with out any issues and give Sony reviews on this.
