Video game analyst Dr. Serkan Toto has predicted that Super Mario Run will reach 1 billion downloads in its lifespan - twice that of Pokemon Go at time of writing.

The noted game consultant made sure to clarify that his prediction for Nintendo's second fully-owned iOS game was based on the ability to download it for free, before paying for full access later, so that doesn't denote a billion sales.

Nintendo's forays into mobile have so far been successful, with first app Miitomo garnering at least 10 million users, and Pokemon Go (which is part-owned by Nintendo) reaching 500 million downloads.

Super Mario Run was announced during yesterday's Apple Press Conference, and takes the visual style of the New Super Mario Bros. series, but is an auto-running platformer designed to be played with one hand.

It will initially be an iOS exclusive, but will come to Android at an unspecified point in the future.
