Xbox Scorpio Website No Longer Mentions VR At All

4.6
When the Xbox One Scorpio was announced last year, Microsoft made it a point to call out the two areas that the new system would be focusing on- delivering true, native 4K gaming, and high fidelity VR gaming, both of which are beyond the reach of all other consoles on the market.

Now, it seems like Microsoft may be trying to shift attention away from the system’s VR capabilities, presuming it has any. As was pointed out on NeoGAF (via GameSpot), the Xbox Scorpio website has removed any and all references to VR. As to why Microsoft is doing that, no one knows. It is entirely possible that their VR solution is not ready to go. On the other hand, maybe the large scale market failure of VR so far might have made them rethink their idea of focusing marketing of the Scorpio around this functionality.

Whatever the case, we have more new questions about the Scorpio every day- Microsoft really need to hurry up and answer some of these, before we all go crazy with the speculation.

Cyimking LOL how is the market for VR a failure when the only people who can actually use VR are people with 4k gaming rigs? That's like saying that the OLED market for TV's was a failure back in 2014. VR is the wave for next generation gaming. Who wouldn't want to play BF1 or Fallout 5 in VR mode?

Once 4k resolution becomes normal like 1080p, the market for VR will be huge. This is the chance for MS to take full control over the gaming market since PlayStation's VR is trash.

You're correct, except that unfortunately the price point for Xbox Scorpio puts it out of range of the common gamer (imo). So the only people who would buying it for VR would be people who have the money and experience already using it. Truthfully, I don't think I would pay $600 for a machine that can run VR, and therefore making it a main selling point towards me or other people who barely got their hands on an xbox one is a waste. If you hype up graphics, speed, and all of the things that I can compare my Xbox One to, I might be more inclined to try it out. While VR isn't a bad thing to have, I think it's more important to market some of the more familiar aspects of gaming rigs, and then have the VR come along with it. I do agree with you though that VR is going to be a large part of gaming in the future, and M$ should capitalize now and get their foot in the door.

That's right Fold. "You" wouldn't buy a console just because it can also run VR.($600)
Many people would completely disagree with you, including me, about that statement. The PC community spends a bit more than $600 to make a VR compatible pc, that can run all other programs with ease. What's the difference here if they turn out a good system with high specs?

This is just one of the first false promises yet to come.

The hype for VR has gone and everyone realizes it's way before it's time at this point. MS are making a smart move moving away from it and focusing on making the console and beasty as it can be.

VR can wait another couple of years until it's been tried and tested me.

I'm happy that this may not be a feature. It means that the developers can focus more on making the system an all rounded console which is very nice.

If Microsoft wants to perfect VR, I wouldn't rush it. Give it a few more years.
