A GameStop spokesperson confirmed what many suspected for weeks: that there is huge demand for the Nintendo Switch out there, and that people are pre-ordering it like crazy.

GameStop senior director of merchandising Eric Bright said that demand for the console is “tremendous”.

“We’ve seen tremendous demand for Switch. And of the initial allocation of pre-orders we took, the majority of them were done by PowerUp Reward customers. They’re definitely looking for this device. We have a ways to go before we satisfy all the demand that’s out there.”

And Bright expects this to continue as the console launches.

“There’s no slowdown, and we don’t see that stopping. We see that continuing for some time” he said.

We recently reported that Walmart sold out of Swtich pre-orders, and Nintendo president has even higher hopes: he believes the Switch could sell as many units as the Wii.

Pre-orders are going well in other territories too: Last month Japanese retailers reported that 80% of the allocated pre-order units were sold out.

In fact, pre-orders were going so well that Nintendo increased production just to fulfill pre-orders that were placed.
