Reasons why Call of Duty Returning To World War II Is A Good Thing
Battlefield 1 Indicates That Old-School Themes Work Well In Today’s Video Games
Need an idea of how well a classic war theme can work with a contemporary shooter? Look no further than Battlefield 1. After having a somewhat decent run with Battlefield 3 and a much more disastrous one with Battlefield 4 (between the terrible single-player campaign and continuous online problems), DICE knew it needed to do something to put the series back on track. So, enter a debut of a new World War I era and some of the best graphics the series has ever seen, combined with the Battlefield tactics we’ve come to know and love. And, of course, it’s brilliant, and a shining example of how a series can turn around. If Sledgehammer Games can do the same with its World War II theme, there’s no reason the Call of Duty community wouldn’t come back with a vengeance.
Multiplayer Could (Probably) Get A Much-Needed Reset
As fun as the multiplayer in Call of Duty is these days, there are some fans who believe that the nature we’ve come to expect from the series has gotten away from the developers. Infinite Warfare offered some innovative touches, but it didn’t feel the same as, say, hunting down opponents in Modern Warfare Remastered. And that turned off quite a few folks from the series as a result. With Call of Duty WWII, the series has a chance to hit the reset button for the most part, while keeping certain fundamentals – Supply Drops, weapon customization, quality map design – in check. Sledgehammer has already proven in the past it can create a great multiplayer experience, as it’s done with Advanced Warfare. Hopefully, it’ll keep this momentum going, but on a much simpler level that will bring back the game’s core audience.
It’s An Ideal Chance To Revisit The Origins Of The Series
Call of Duty got its start with World War II, with the original game on PC drawing a tremendous amount of appeal, and Infinity Ward keeping up the momentum graciously with Call of Duty II for both PC and Xbox 360. And Treyarch didn’t do too shabby as well, as many regard Call of Duty 3 one of the best games in the series. So, with a return to World War II era action, Activision could easily re-explore these classics, either with HD re-releases on current consoles (and hopefully ones that can sell on their own, instead of forcing people to buy one game to get the others) or, at the very least, bringing them up when it comes to discussing bringing back the nature of the series as we’ve expected it to be. We’d be happy to see one (or all) of these games make a return, getting us that pumped up for whatever WWII shapes up to be.
Call Of Duty: World At War Proved A Return To Form Works
At a time when fans couldn’t get enough of Modern Warfare, Treyarch came up with the crazy idea to revisit the World War II era once again, with the 2008 release World At War. It wasn’t necessary, but, damn it, did it work well for the series, introducing the likes of the new Zombies mode, as well as a strong turn from Kiefer Sutherland. It’s probably all the evidence Activision needed to see to think, “Hey, you know what, World War II can still work.” And who knows, this game could see a re-release as well, with Treyarch working alongside Sledgehammer Games to make it click alongside WWII.
It Could Prove To Be An Incredible Turnaround For Activision In Fans’ Eyes
Activision’s not doing too shabby right now when it comes to money, but its over-saturation of franchises is hard to miss. Call of Duty has run its course over the past few years, despite some stellar games from the series. But by providing a game that players truly want, Activision could possibly see a turn-around similar to that of EA. Remember, at one time, EA was considered the worst company to work for in America. Now? More of a favorite thanks to stuff like Titanfall 2. All it takes are a few key titles for Activision to do the same, and it could be well on its way with an improved Destiny sequel, the Crash Bandicoot compilation, and, of course, Call of Duty WWII, if it’s actually happening.

Let's say it is WW2 based, that still doesn't stop them from adding bs stuff we've seen the past few years into the game.

Glock-Maybe this was there plan after all lol. Piss off the fans with their poo games and clap back with a fire old school.JoooeeeeyyyyExcellent point, I'm glad they are finally listing to fans. Back in the day I loved MW2 and WAW. These new call of duties are just boring and dumb. This could be a turnaround for call of duty and I hope they don't mess it up. This is pretty much the series last chance.Jay WWII....i'm not sold. It seems as if they are following EA/Dice by going old school again when past CoD's have been future set.
Keep in mind that they have been working on this about 2-3 years. I'm pretty sure when they found out about battlefield 1, they were already far into development in this game.

There are some good arguments here but activision doesnt care about any of them. They are going to make whatever they think will make them the most money

There's no need in telling us why it's good, we know it's a good thing and it's the only thing that can save the series from coming to abrupt end.
