“For full disclosure Xbox 360 sold 483,989 consoles,” the Chief of Staff for Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft has shared via his Twitter presence, “which is a 37% increase over last year…only system up YOY.”
Greenberg further points out that the Microsoft machine was the best-selling home console for the fourth month in a row. No new figures for the other systems are yet available, though NPD’s Anita Frazier does confirm that “hardware unit sales, with the exception of the Xbox 360, are down versus last September.”
However: “.. a couple other platforms, specifically the PS3 and the PSP are up on an average sales per week basis as compared to last month (August 2010).”
Also up were accessories: 13% to $180m. And that in large part to the release of Sony’s PlayStation Move, Frazier believes.
NPD has released its new, now-with-less-numbers software chart as well (below). The only sales figure known is that of Halo: Reach though (3.3 million copies in the two weeks it was available in September), which Greenberg has confirmed.
1. Halo: Reach (360) – Microsoft
2. Madden NFL 11 (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP) – Electronic Arts
3. Dead Rising 2 (360, PS3, PC) – Capcom
4. NHL 11 (360, PS3) – Electronic Arts
5. FIFA SOCCER 11 (360, PS3, PS2, PSP, NDS) – Electronic Arts
6. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP) – Square Enix Inc
7. Mafia II (360, PS3, PC) – Take 2 Interactive
8. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (PS3, 360, NDS, Wii) – Activision
9. Metroid: Other M (Wii) – Nintendo
10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360, PS3, PC) – Activision Blizzard
