Thankfully, Nintendo Switch hardware and Super Mario Odyssey producer Yoshiaki Koizumi recently revealed Switch owners have more to look forward to in the next couple of years. In a recent interview with Famitsu (translation from Siliconera), Koizumi stressed the IPs fans love are still to come on the system:
“Nintendo still have many IPs which have not come out for the system, and also more than just existing IPs in store as well. We are planning and preparing games that people probably haven’t thought about, which will be released steadily over the next two years. We hope to make games which resonate with players using this process, so please patiently look forward to it.”
While the statement leaves mostly speculation, Nintendo has already announced a few series will make their debut on the Switch down the line. During E3 2017, both a mainline Pokémon game and Metroid Prime 4 were teased. While details have been scarce for both properties since then, interviews have revealed players will likely see both games in late 2018 through late 2019, which lines up nicely with Koizumi’s “next two years” forecast.
Adding to the teases for Nintendo’s latest console, The Wall Street Journalist reporter Takashi Mochizuki reported a hint from Nintendo’s CEO. According to Mochizuki in a tweet, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said “there will be more ways to have fun with Switch” during Nintendo’s latest financial results press conference. While no extra details were given, Kimishima said more will be announced next year.

Apart from announcing games from its internal team during E3, it’s important to remember the many third-party titles arriving on the Switch. For example, several Bethesda titles, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Doom, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, will make their way to the console through 2018, with Doom arriving the soonest on November 10th of this year. Nintendo has also been expanding its presence on the mobile smartphone platforms, with Animal Crossing Pocket Camp recently revealed to arrive on iOS and Android in late November. In turn, players can expect that, at least for now, Animal Crossing is likely not one of the IPs coming to Switch down the line.
