The comments were made during Microsoft’s annual shareholders meeting, at a time when Microsoft shares are at an all time high. Anyway, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella broadly mentioned expanding the approach the company takes to gaming, and connecting gaming assets so they will “grow and engage the over 53 million Xbox Live members more deeply and frequently.”
Another interesting quote from Satya Nadella points to changing how games are played and viewed:
“We’re mobilizing to pursue an expansive opportunity in the 100+ billion gaming market. This means broadening our approach to how we think about gaming end-to-end. About starting with games and how they’re created and distributed, and how they’re played and viewed.”
This is definitely some eye-opening news, especially at a time when the Xbox One X is becoming popular enough to make Time Magazine’s Top Ten Gadgets of 2017 list, and at a time when Microsoft also has the Windows Mixed Reality platform for gaming. Even with the Xbox One X successor supposedly being two years out, it will be interesting to see where Microsoft takes their gaming division from here on out.
