Battlefield 5 “potentially headed for serious disappointment”

Last week, a report from investment firm the Cowen Group pointed out that Battlefield 5 pre-orders have been below expectations. This week, the company revealed a few more details.

In a note to CNBC, analyst Doug Creutz said that Battlefield 5 pre-orders are below other anticipated fall games like Black Ops 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, and even Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

“EA’s Battlefield 5 currently appears to potentially be headed for serious disappointment,” noted Creutz. “If we had to pick one game to be a casualty of the crowded October window, this would clearly be it.”

More specifically, Creutz revealed that Battlefield 5 pre-orders are tracking “more than 85%” behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which is well below the gap Battlefield 4, and Battlefield 3 had with their Call of Duty counterparts in their respective years (20-40%).

Battlefield 1, the series’ best-selling game, was the only entry to track ahead of Call of Duty (Infinite Warfare) in pre-orders.

“This is very far off the tracking levels of previous Battlefield titles in 2011, 2013, and 2016,” said Creutz.

“With a release date directly in between Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2, we worry that Battlefield 5 could be headed for a similar fate as 2016’s Titanfall 2, which got squeezed out by its launch date directly between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.”

Based on this information, the Cowen analyst said that Battlefield 5 won’t be able to sell the 13-14 million copies he believes EA is estimating.

At gamescom this week, EA and DICE released a new Battlefield 5 multiplayer trailer, and revealed the starting dates for the game’s upcoming beta tests.

Battlefield 5 launches October 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

+1

BFBC2 was the best one made. It was such a good game. Battlefield 3 was second best. The rest are meh. Nothing I'd go back to. I'd love a BC3 to come out that lives up to BC2 days. I haven't bothered with BF after BF3 but I'd defo pre order and hype a BC3

After all that's said in done there sales will still drop, due to the fact that they release it between two triple A games and that they are shoving women down people's throats.

Method_Man They seriously made a huge mistake not releasing this over the summer. Theres literally no big named game out right now worth playing & would've been the perfect opportunity to capatilize! Instead they wait until a release int he crowded month of october. Sorry ill be playing Red Dead

BFV is going to fail because Patrick soderlund told everyone that if they don't like women being in the game don't buy it and then called them uneducated . there were some women in ww2 but not the way they're portraying them they are throwing out historical accuracy to push an sjw agenda and that is why this game will fail

WHAT? Are you trying to tell me there WEREN'T transgender women with metal hands at Normandy?

I was planning on skipping it anyways. I'm ready for a modern or futuristic one. 2142 is what got me into BF. Fun as hell and people weren't running on walls or flying around in jet packs

Roop No Battlefield had the hype BF3 had, best battlefield in the series imo.

This^^^^^

BF3 was the last battlefield I enjoyed playing. All these FPS games are just getting way too repetitive in their series. The only thing new being added really is just maps and the "battle royale" modes which will eventually die out. Regardless of the "new additions", the content is getting stale.
