Report: Microsoft Apparently Releasing Disc-Less Xbox One in 2019
While there isn’t an official confirmation from Microsoft on this information just yet, the report details that the console is slated to release in 2019 and will not allow users to insert discs into the console. However, Microsoft are also working on a “disc-to-digital program” that will turn your physical copies of video games into a digital format. No, it’s not technical magic, it’s just you swapping it for a code at participating retailers.
Some people may be asking why on earth Microsoft would do this so late into the current-generation and just before the release and announcement of the “Scarlett” Xbox family. Well, the report states that it will lower the price of the brand new console by hopefully $100, meaning that it will cost only “$200 or less” due to a lack of a disc drive. Sounds good to me.
On top of this, Thurrott says that “the company also has a revised Xbox One S SKU that is targeted for later in the year that focuses solely on cost reduction but does feature a disc-drive for those who still prefer the traditional way to buy your games.”
Interestingly, their sources claim that Microsoft have still not come up with a decision on whether the Scarlett family will include disc drives or not, and apparently will be making “a final decision shortly.”
The brand new disc-less Xbox One should be arriving in “the spring of 2019” which they heard was “the target as this device is well on its path to production.”
We’ll have to see come next year whether or not this report is true, so for now you should take it with a grain of salt and put your tin foil hat on, on whether Microsoft will indeed make the push for an all-digital Xbox One console.

This is pretty silly IMO, all these minor changes to consoles is such a gigantic waste of time IMO.

SR20DET The only thing that really bothers me about having a disk-less console is having the games linked to your account, lets say you get banned on that account all those games you bought are just gone. Sure if someone has gotten banned it's usually because of their own fault but it just seems unfair to still lose all those games which you put money into to need to buy them again.
Don't get banned lol, not that hard

Two_Faced This is cool and all, but what about us folk who want to use our Xbox to play BluRay? And I don't think 1TB is sufficient to have more than a few games ready to play at once. My buddy was downloading Red Dead for 2 days, he doesn't play any online games, this would not benifit anyone. A better idea would be games on flash drive IMO
Buy a blu-ray player? Lmao...
ZeroTwo This would save them money, making the consoles cheaper. Most PC's dont have a disk drive.
True especially now a days not many people go for them
Kixa The disc less xbox should at least come with 3tb+ imo in order for this to work.
Every console generally has a storage problem at this point but changing it to digital from disc shouldn't make that much of a difference in size as most disc games are directly downloaded once inserted now a days anyway as there too big for the disc.
WittLowry Doubt it's going to sell lots, kinda redundant.
Whats redundant the console or the discs?

ZTG Why would they release a whole new Xbox where the only difference is that it doesn't have a CD drive. My CD drive was like £15, how does that reduce the price by $100-$200
Installation time and such.
While putting on in is a medial task in of itself, it stacks up when you are putting it together.
That's my base guess, at least.
I honestly don't see this as very crediable until Microsoft mentions something themselves.
