‘Some May Leave Call of Duty for Battlefield 3′
This time it’s Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter weighs in on why Call of Duty’s Elite service might cause some players to “defect” to Battlefield 3.
We expect EA’s game (Battlefield 3) to perform exceedingly well, eclipsing the 6.5 million units sold by the last iteration, and think that Activision’s introduction of Call of Duty Elite (its premium subscription service) could cause a small number of loyal Call of Duty players to defect to EA’s game.

He also thinks that there’s a chance that Modern Warfare 3 could set another entertainment record, yet again. This time toppling Black Ops’ 20 million units sold…but Battlefield 3 might cause Acitvision’s shares to come “under pressure” if it does really well.
While we think that Activision’s 2011 Call of Duty sales have the potential to eclipse last year’s mind-boggling 20 million units, due primarily to the network effect created by the game’s remarkable 17 million weekly active unique online players, we think that the company’s shares may come under pressure when EA’s game is launched, particularly if Battlefield 3 receives a 90+ Metacritic score.
Michael Pachter on CoD's sales and it being affected by BF3
Do you think Pachter’s correct in his analysis? It could just be me, but I suspect Battlefield 3 will sell significantly more than Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Call it a hunch, if you will.

i doubt it, i mean map packs for cod were more expensive but it didnt stop it from being the fastest selling dlc, i rekon ppl will still pay for the service & the ppl that dont will continue to play online like usual...
in the end the gameplay is most important & cod shines above battlefield because of it. i mean i am no fanboy i play battlefield but i enjoy cod games way more.
The sales prove that most ppl agree.

This patcher fellow is a complete idiot. "The lack of clarity of whats free and whats not?" Has he even looked at all the info they released? its quite clear what were getting. I'm not taking sides in this but obvious facts are ignored by this idiot.

I_R_ASSauLT That might happen because there's something good with both Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty, and bad things. With CoD, the guns sound like toys but you can feel the shot when you kill someone. With Battlefield, the guns sound real but you can't feel the shot when you kill someone.
Not at all..... In Battlefield: BC if you ever played it... when you shot the m95 you knew they were dead.
