‘Some May Leave Call of Duty for Battlefield 3′

Yep, it’s another Call of Duty vs. Battlefield type of post. Expect more of this as both games’ launch window nears.

This time it’s Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter weighs in on why Call of Duty’s Elite service might cause some players to “defect” to Battlefield 3.

We expect EA’s game (Battlefield 3) to perform exceedingly well, eclipsing the 6.5 million units sold by the last iteration, and think that Activision’s introduction of Call of Duty Elite (its premium subscription service) could cause a small number of loyal Call of Duty players to defect to EA’s game.

He also thinks that there’s a chance that Modern Warfare 3 could set another entertainment record, yet again. This time toppling Black Ops’ 20 million units sold…but Battlefield 3 might cause Acitvision’s shares to come “under pressure” if it does really well.

While we think that Activision’s 2011 Call of Duty sales have the potential to eclipse last year’s mind-boggling 20 million units, due primarily to the network effect created by the game’s remarkable 17 million weekly active unique online players, we think that the company’s shares may come under pressure when EA’s game is launched, particularly if Battlefield 3 receives a 90+ Metacritic score.

Do you think Pachter’s correct in his analysis? It could just be me, but I suspect Battlefield 3 will sell significantly more than Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Call it a hunch, if you will.

AREALLYCRAZYGUY here is how it is for me(opinion alert don't troll or flame -_-) I remember i was like 14 when i started playing cod. yes it was all the rage everybody was talking about cod! I'm 17 now. I play BFBC2 like a pro. but wait a minute. I was good on cod too. the difference was in cod, I felt like an overpower douche with a microphone. I honestly hurt a few people feelings, with what i said too them. in Battlefield. every game is a good game, no matter who won or who lost. I meet some very respectful people now and have some of the greatest game nights every week. you guys have quickscoping in cod. we have tank tormenting in battlefield. this all is a matter of who you are...and who you will be in 3 years or so. I prefer Battlefield. but also respect people who play COD. and that's my closing argument ladies and gentlemen of the jury. play 4 fun not war :)

I totally agree, the call of duty sires has also been ruined by TrickShoting and the Faze clan

ive played cod ever since cod 3, ive bought every map pack for every one, and to be honest, im getting a bit bored of the COD franchise, unless they can remake cod all together, then it will never be any diffrent then the previous one, just a new coat of paint. i think all Activision are doing is just milking the community.

And the BF3 trailer still gives me goose bumps when i watch it xD

People need to realize That BF: Bad company 2 ran at 30 fps and it was a smooth game. Frostbite 2 engine is far superior to MW3's engine. They have been using the same engine on all the Call of Duty's since Call of Duty 2. COD 2 is 6 years old... The engine is so damn old, they just slightly polish it every COD game. That's why All COD's so far play the same and look very similar, It's because they are running on the COD 2 engine which was based off the quake 2 engine. The Frostbite 2 engine is brand new!

If all you have over Battlefield right now is FPS, that's just sad. How about you compare something more important. Maybe you should compare the engine's, but you know IW is to lazy to make a new one. Im gonna love your response, I just know it.
