As shared by US videogames analyst at the NPD, Mat Piscatella, on Twitter, in terms of US dollar sales, Minecraft achieved its “highest placement ever reached on the monthly best-sellers chart” this August, according to the NPD’s data research. It also “remains the all-time best-selling game in the strategy classification genre,” as well as sitting in the number 13 spot for best-selling games of 2019 so far on its charts, the company reports.
This is an interesting result for the now-eight year old sandbox game, which Piscatella reflects in a YouTube video he’s posted about the market highlights. Covered as a “notable performance” by Piscatella, he says that the game has had “an exceptionally good summer.”
It’s worth bearing in mind that, due to the game’s age and the different versions that have been available over the years, it’s possible that some of Minecraft’s past performance might not be fully reflected in this result – but it’s still an impressive feat for the game nonetheless, as the NPD’s findings show.
US NPD SW - Minecraft was the 2nd best-selling video game of August 2019, an all-time high placement on the best-sellers chart. Minecraft currently ranks as the 13th best-selling game of 2019, and is the all-time best-selling game in the strategy genre. pic.twitter.com/PUo6lebkYw
