The rail shooter has long been a staple of the arcade genre for decades, and perhaps one of the most iconic series to come out of the genre was SEGA’s The House of the Dead. While the series itself has only recently been revived with a new arcade game that debuted last year, those looking to jump back into the original games will get to experience them once again with upcoming remakes of the first two games.
Developer and publisher Forever Entertainment confirmed on Twitter that the company is officially working on development for remakes of the original game and House of the Dead 2. Following the previous rumors that hinted at their development, Forever instead has come forward and confirmed their development head on, though no specific platforms or release dates for the remakes were announced at this time.
News of the potential remakes for the first two House of the Dead titles began surfacing within the past week, as Polish site Graczpospolita detailed that the remakes by Forever Entertainment were in the works, and also detailed that the titles would be coming to Nintendo Switch. According to the early details, the remakes of the first two House of the Dead titles will bring with them updated visuals and gameplay, but (hopefully) will stay faithful to the on-rails, lightgun-based gameplay of the originals (though probably without the lightguns this time around).
Outside of the upcoming House of the Dead remakes, Forever Entertainment is also currently developing a remake of Panzer Dragoon, which showed gameplay for the first time earlier this year at E3 2019 and will be releasing this winter.
