E3 2020 Reportedly Cancelled due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) concerns

4.1
The Entertainment Software Association may be announcing E3 2020's cancellation tomorrow morning due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) concerns, if rumors are to be believed. This comes after multiple games industry events like GDC and SXSW were either postponed or canceled as well. If true, this would mark the first time in the show's history that it won't take place.

The floodgates opened up on Twitter Tuesday night after Devolver Digital tweeted that people should "cancel [their] E3 flights and hotels." This led others in the industry to confirm that sources speaking with them had indicated the event would indeed be canceled.

Though Sony had already announced it would not be attending E3 this year, much like how it skipped out last year, Microsoft had big plans to detail the Xbox Series X even further. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X expected to come out next holiday, all eyes were on any next-gen announcements. I'd wager that many companies will be looking to make their announcements over livestream now.

It will be interesting to see the fallout of E3's possible cancellation this year. Many have described the event as a sinking ship that was becoming irrelevant to publishers and consumers alike. Now that publishers may have the chance to see what they stand to lose (or gain) from not attending the show, it could possibly lead them to pull out next year. We'll need to wait and see what changes the event may or may not undergo as a result.

We haven't had official word that the show's been axed just yet, but it's surely only a matter of time. Over on Twitter, the likes of publisher Devolver Digital, Kotaku news editor Jason Schreier, and the ever-reliable Wario64 are all suggesting that it's done.

This was expected for sure. I hope that we still get something nice on a stream or something.

TTG_Samurai As if anyone was going to go if it wasn't cancelled?

Other than the 65k+ that have gone there for the past 3 years, which is actually over the fire marshals' safety listing for about 64k people in that building.

OT: Kind of annoyed honestly, tickets and shit were already bought as well as hotel since I wasn't wanting to drive back home on the freeway every night like usual. This year seemed like a better year for people who bought the cheaper tickets as they got more hours out of it, even though it was 2 days instead of 3 (cheapest pass.) Hopefully it's just a rumour and that's it or MAYBE they'll go back to it at a later date for the convention after things get a little more situated, because the physical convention is the best part with all the booths set up, only thing I was really looking forward to since it falls around garbage ass Summer season.

Just be happy they're saving you from potential infection

I travel by plane upwards of 8 times a month, if I'm getting infected anywhere, it's from those travels. It's already hit California and places near me, I could not want to drive somewhere and take an Uber and that car is infected from someone else. I'm not going to worry about the potential of me getting infected stopping me from doing stuff, if I got infected, then yeah, I'll worry about not spreading it, but I'm not going to live in a bubble where I need to worry about going some place in chances I may get it.
