Black Ops beats Gears of War 3 for current online players

We've been following closely the online numbers which feature prominently in Gears of War 3 and it seems since launching on the 20th, Friday night had the most simultaneous online players.

The actual numbers peaked at just over 400,000 across the co-op campaign, versus modes and of course people are now playing Horde and Beast modes.

It's now the weekend, and perhaps this evening, the numbers will swell further. In comparison, as of now Call of Duty Black Ops on Xbox 360 has around 260,000 online players which is more than Gears of War 3 which sits just under 177,000. Modern Warfare 2 has just under 70,000 online players. However, considering Gears of War 3 has been out for one week and the sheer numbers of Black Ops sales it's understandable. Can Gears 3 become the most played game on Xbox Live though over the coming weeks?

shadow1 The only reason why that Black Ops surpassed GOW3 is because the COD franchise is more popular with children. If you go into a BO lobby, theres a 80% chance you will get kids 15 and under.

True. Also today Gears was at almost 650k players. Horde, beast, campaign, and mp.

about 20% of the people who play black ops were in 1st grade when Gears 1 came out(if they are 12 years old...which is veeeerrryyy common on BO, then they were 6 f**king YEARS OLD)

Exactly, and gears of war is a lot different than other games, its not new-user friendly either, you cant walk around and spray and get kills like cod. I'm not saying call of duty is bad so all the tools can cry about it...anyway i think its sad that people don't try new games out and just stick to the same fps all the time but w/e

It's because CoD is an easy game to play... Gears of War takes skill & you have to be good to stick a long with everyone.

Mp yes maybe but nothing ever beats the GoW story and if you say cod or bf has a better story your sir are a ****

Well I can see why... The Call of Duty franchise is much more popular than Gears of War (even though black ops is the worst game ever made)
