Nintendo of Japan has announced that the 3DS firmware update, which adds a host of new features and was due before the end of the month, will now be released on December 8.

According to Andriasang, Nintendo said on its website that "more time is needed for preparations." The update includes 3D video recording and playback, data transfer between 3DS systems, support for paid downloadable content through microtransactions, a new messaging service, and extra content for StreetPass Mii Plaza.

We've asked Nintendo UK for confirmation whether the delay also applies to Europe - it was originally announced as a December release, but recent TV ad campaigns have stated it would launch on November 30 - and will update when we hear back.
