Battlefield 3 took market share from Call of duty - EA

Despite Activision’s latest Call of Duty setting entertainment launch records for the third consecutive year, rival EA was successful in capturing a slice of the franchise’s pie this year with Battlefield 3, COO Peter Moore is confident.

“I think when the dust fully settles, maybe when we’re looking at the end of our fiscal year, we’ll do an analysis and I think we will have taken [market] share,” Moore tells MCV. “I don’t think there’s any doubt about that, unless everything BF3 sells is just incremental.”

The rivalry of the shooter giants, which mainly manifested in verbal back and forths initiated and kept alive by EA, also benefited “gamers and the industry,” Moore adds.

“Together we’ve grown the genre enormously. 10m sold in and 5m sold through doesn’t come out of nowhere – if we haven’t gained share, that means in the first week we’ve added 5 million new FPS gamers.” That, or a lot of people simply bought both shooters.

Stop arguing! You cant compare two different games! Bf3 you can go into tanks, helis and lots of other stuff. EA/dice always make a good game. Mw3 is good if you like always being ain action and fast paced with killstreaks. Also bf3 has a more mature playing group. Whereas you may have mw3 squeakers

85% of the threads were about people looking to do "Nemesis Boosting" lmao. And more people are playing battlefield 3 every day? Actually BF3 can't get more online players then Black Ops, or Skyrim, and if it can't even more players online then those two games then it damn sure doesn't have more online players then MW3.

But I'm still laughing at that "no boosting" part...dumbass

BF3 can't get more online players then the COD game that came out last year, how exactly is call of duty losing the war?

Honestly i could care less who is the highest in online activity.
Call of duty has 20,000ish boosters and as far as i can tell more people are playing battlefield everyday.... Maps are bigger better more detailed weapons have real stats no boosting i can continue to knock call of duty down all night but i have a date with an a-10 thunderbolt on battlefield 3.

bf3 not my game, i know only 1 person that bought bf3 and he traded it in at gamestop to buy mw3. so ea saying that they gained some market share either they bought bf3 then quit and bought cod or they bought both i do not know a single person who owns just bf3 but i know tons who own just mw3

1: Skyrim is nominated for top game of 2011, not CoD or BF3
2: Skyrim had a prequel, and so did MW3, BF3 had zero% base start so that means BF3 had to get all fans hooked in one game. MW series has been out how long?(5 years) 5 more years than BF to get a base to start with story wise. BTW MW3 only advertised multiplayer because they knew their story skills were garbage.

You can't compare Battlefield or CoD to Skyrim. They're two different genres. I prefer CoD to Battlefield, and having played both I'm entitled to my own opinion. I'd happily play a FIFA game over any other game if I'm honest, and also get your facts right. Battlefield has had many other prequals, MW3 has had 7, not including spin-offs and extensions. Releasing a Battlefiels 3 open beta obviously entised a lot more customers. But if you see the amount of people that play CoD to Battlefield, then look at the ratio. I would guess that CoD would have more players.

CoD = douchbags and littlekids and some adults that dont know a good game

BF3 = a true great war game

Skyrim = a great RPG game that cannot be compared to shooters
