Should Exploiters be Punished for MW3 Devs’ Mistakes? Bowling Answers

The infamous prestige token glitch is coming to an end with the next Modern Warfare 3 patch (1.08), but this particular glitch has raised an interesting debate between the “abusers” and MW3′s creative strategist, Robert Bowling.

Robert Bowling believes that a fix is included in “the next title update for MW3″ to rectify the prestige token glitch, but with all the bans that Infinity Ward issued, this issue definitely left its mark. Some players, who admittedly abused the glitch, are arguing with Robert Bowling that since the team behind MW3 dropped the ball in terms of game design, the exploiters shouldn’t be punished for it. Bowling explained “we will fix it [prestige token glitch]. However, it’s important “we make it clear that its not okay to exploit, even while we’re fixing.” One angry player questioned Bowling on the merit of banning players for exploiting a design flaw, Bowling reiterated players are ”not banned for there being a glitch, banned for abusing it.” In regard to the argument of how can the security team hand out bans for problems in the game itself, Bowling explained why it’s not his (security team’s) fault, “unless I came over to your console and got you prestige tokens that you knew you didn’t earn. Then no, I promise you, I am not.”

aswhooper It IS NOT the devs' faults. How is it? It's the exploiters that are EXPLOITING the glitch. If you find some "glitch" with say, Paypal, and get access to infinite money, then buy everything you can, do you not think you'll get punished?

Like really people, it's your choice to exploit the glitch, it's not like it's there on purpose for people to use if they feel like it.

Why is this even a debate, exploiters should be perm banned for cheating at the game. If you're one of those dumbasses who decided to go to -800 tokens, you definitely deserve whatever punishment they give you.
Finally someone who ist a immature child...You used a known glitch and now you want to not get punished. GTFP and grow up, the real world doesnt work like that. Just cause i have a guns that "can" kill people doesnt mean i will "metaphorically speaking" Damn poeple are really stupid -_-

To be fair, Microsoft takes forever to approve updates. Which in my opinion is dumb. If a publisher is trusted enough such as Activision they should not have to go through the whole process of getting it approved. Game developers should just be able to put out updates on their own time, but considering they can't it is only partly Infinity Ward's fault for the long day.


I Understnad where you're getting at. I know Microsoft does take their time in order to approve on a Update/Patch but for Activision or IW(which ever is controlling the Update) it would have been better for them to just ban them instead of resetting them because most people may have done the glitch on accident because I have seen friends of mine who didn't want that. So yeah it is Partly the companies fault as they know Call of duty games are pretty much the most recently and popular games that want to be hacked/modded/tampered with. /)(

Did they have to do what they did? 10,000 deaths? I know alot of ppl who did it, and they still haven't got banned, Ive been banned and now lvl 80, FU IW, You're lucky i didn't go sell mw3, but i paid 60 for it.

If you unlock more then 6 your banned automatically. 4 from older cods, and 2 from Elite. you shouldnt be able to get more then that

I think people should be able to challenge a ban, because people who were actually glitched into it got banned and they never abused it.

Infinity Ward makes a poor game with lazy mistakes, they penalize us for their laziness instead of fixing it. Makes sense right?
