Rumor: Next Xbox contains Blu-ray, anti-used system

4.6
An industry source has told Kotaku that Microsoft’s next Xbox will contain Blu-ray as its disc technology, and that it’ll introduce Kinect 2; and that it’s to contain some kind of anti-used game technology. Such support would be a substantial data storage upgrade over 360′s current DVD model, which can only support up to 9Gb max. Blu-ray, on the other hand, can support up to 25Gb on a single-layer disc, and up to 50Gb on dual-layer. Previous rumors peg the system to also ship with DVR functionality.

The source from the Kotaku report implied that Microsoft plans to incorporate an anti-used game application into the next Xbox. However, information on how such a scheme would be administered is unknown at this time.

Another chatterer has told Kotaku the next-generation of Kinect sensors will ship with the console, and that motion sensor will contain its own on-board processor – tech which was originally planned for the first iteration of Kinect.

The firm is also supposedly making the controller smaller than the one used with Xbox 360.

Add all of these rumors to yesterday’s, which stated the next Xbox would contain six times the processing power of 360, and you have a broader picture of what “Xbox 720″ is rumored to include under the hood. Maybe.

I can't believe people believe everything posted on the news section. It was good awhile ago but now its just garbage and full of fake bullshit and opinions that are written like facts.

@Everybody saying you can't play used games.

I think the article is trying to say that they might be using game technology that nobody else uses/wants to use, not technology that prevents you from using used games.

Some of these sound like a complete load of crap. But the anti used game thing sounds believable since companies are getting stingier with money every day. I don't like the idea of a smaller controller either. The current controller fit my hands perfect. Maybe a partial redesign?

bmadden I thought bluray was created by sony?

nope blu ray was created by the Blu-ray Disc Association. consisting of nine leading companies Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG (Lucky GoldStar) Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung.

And how is Microsoft going to employ an anti used game policy? Are they crazy? I guess they want it to be more like the PC, hello CD keys. Goodbye piracy? LOL :D !!!

It was expected sooner or later, Online passes? Thats too little for what they want. If you have a lended DVD, they might charge you for another CD spot.

so...its going to be useless to have used games therefore if you do not like a game your pretty much stuck with it...I suppose renting would go up but that wouldn't be aloud would it? That sounds like a horrible idea, their going to lose a huge chunk of sales and consumers to that.

It doesn't make any sense for them to do this, as most people i know buy used games. But other companies have done dumber things, well see.
ragtie I Really hope they don't include an anti-used game technology.
