Super Mario World originally came out all the way back in 1990 on the SNES, yet it’s a game that’s still relevant today. Considering how groundbreaking the game was when it came out, it remains in many people’s top Nintendo games through the ages. Luckily for us, the game remaining popular means that we continue to see helpful and interesting fan projects.

Many of us are familiar with the frustrations of loving older games but owning modern technology. The games are still playable, but we almost always run into the issue where the older games simply no longer fit correctly onto modern screens. Luckily, one of the most popular oldies has been enhanced into a wide screen edition, so this will no longer be a problem when playing Super Mario World.

Vitor Vilela and friends have taken the time to construct a Super Mario World download with 16:9 resolution. They explain that this is possible through expanding the horizontal resolution by 96 pixels. Obviously, since the SNES does not have this resolution, you will need to use an emulator focused into high-definition mods bsnes-hd.



Additionally, the creator notes that more aspect ratios are planned or a work in progress, including 2:1 and 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratios. Vilela also shares some important notes for when you download this, including that the ROM will not be provided and that you must play with bsnes_hd.

There are all sorts of impressive fan projects, especially when it comes to older classics like Super Mario World. Not too long ago, some Super Mario World speedrunners beat the entire game in 40 seconds by rewriting the code with Koopa shells. The process for this is so much more complex than you might think, but the result is impressive.

In other Mario news, it was recently announced at E3 that five of the N64 Mario Party maps and 100 of the N64 Mario Party mini games will be brought to us in the upcoming Mario Party Superstars for the Nintendo Switch. We can't wait to sit down and party with friends like we did back in the good ol' days.
