The game’s official Twitter account confirmed that the multiplayer horror title, which was planned for release in 2021, will instead be coming in February 2022.
According to the statement, the delay is needed to “give the team some extra time for polish and to ensure this is the ultimate Evil Dead experience you’re all waiting for”.
As a consequence of this delay, however, the game will now be adding a single-player mode, for those who can’t or won’t play multiplayer.
Evil Dead: The Game is a joint production by Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games, and contains likenesses of characters from the series.
A new trailer shown during E3 2021, which was voiced by Bruce Campbell (who plays Ash in the series), shows off the game’s co-op and PvP gameplay, as teams of up to four heroes try to kill Deadites and ultimately collect pages from the Book of the Dead so they can banish the Kandarian Demon.
Players can choose to play either as the heroes or the Deadites, with the latter team trying to stop the humans achieving their goal. They can also become the demon itself, possessing human players.
This additional time is also allowing us to implement a single-player option that will let you enjoy the game when you are without your co-op compadres.

The game includes more than 25 weapons, including Ash’s gauntlet, boomstick and chainsaw, as well as new dialogue recorded by Bruce Campbell.
The trailer also shows off Ash’s iconic 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale car, which features in every entry in the Evil Dead series.
Evil Dead: The Game is now coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC in February 2022.
