The God of War reboot was originally released on PlayStation 4 in 2018, and the new PC port launches today with upgraded visuals.
Although this port was mainly handled by Canadian studio Jetpack Interactive, the game’s original creators at Santa Monica Studio helped supervise the project.
And in a new interview with Game Informer, senior manager of technical production Matt DeWald stated that he prefers playing the game with mouse and keyboard because that’s what he’s been doing for the past two years of development.
“I actually play most of the time on mouse and keyboard now just because I’ve been working on it for two years, and it’s just been my default,” DeWald said. “It feels super natural to me to play it on mouse and keyboard.”
Of course, the game can still be played with a controller too, including an Xbox pad. DeWald was asked what he thought about a PlayStation game being played with an Xbox controller, to which he replied: “Awesome.”
“We even put in all the glyphs for you so you don’t get confused by the button press,” he added. “Yeah, we have no problems with that. You can even use a Switch controller here as well.
“You can definitely use any of the third-party controllers. We tried to add as many options as possible because why limit people who want to play the game?”
God of War released for PS4 in April 2018 and had sold 19.5 million copies as of August 2021, according to Sony. Its sequel, God of War Ragnarök, will be released for PS4 and PS5 in 2022.
PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst said last June that the platform holder was “still early on in our planning for PC” but that consoles would remain the priority for new releases.
PlayStation recently acquired Nixxes Software, which is best known for its work on the PC versions of Square Enix properties including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman and Thief, to help it bring its games to the platform.
You can download the latest God of War Trainer and cheats for free from WeMod. The God of War is out now on Steam and Epic, and you can pick it up at a price of $49.99 / £39.99 / €49.99.
