343i: 'Halo 4 isn't chasing Call of Duty's tail'

Although 343 Industries has taken influence from Call of Duty in the development of Halo 4, the studio isn't trying to compete directly with Activision's behemoth.

In an interview with CVG, Halo franchise development director Frank O'Connor was asked if modern shooters such as Call of Duty have had an influence on the design of Halo 4.
O'Connor replied by saying 343i has done its due diligence, keeping abreast of the genre's evolution and a keen eye on peers. He went on to reveal former Treyarch and Infinity Ward devs are working on the sequel and "bringing some of their habits to the game."

Despite this, the development team has made a conscious effort to ensure Halo remains distinct and maintains its own gameplay identity.

"We haven't tried to chase that tail," said O'Connor. "Those games are good for specific reasons, and Halo is good for a different set of specific reasons.

"I think the closest we've come to that conversation about Call of Duty, is that we wanted to have an amazing player progression experience that wasn't just aesthetics."

Earlier today 343 revealed the Flood will return in Halo 4, and showed off two new vehicles.

Millions of ppl still love cod and I'm sure half if those ppl are just getting into cod. People will always play cod. No matter what..

Personally i already bought BLOPS2 but i will defiantly save up to get Halo4 next #wish i would have before BLOPS2

Batch541 has any one ever realized that cod is more popular because little kids play it more and it's way more easy. halo is a lot harder and takes more skill. and people that sya its just jumping you probably suck at it and your rank in h3 is probs 10 and in reach probably a major.


Another ignorant Halo fanboy lmao. I remember playing Halo 2 online when I was like 11 or 12 years old. I was a dedicated Halo fanboy and Halo 2 was the only game I played on Xbox until Halo 3 was released, then Halo 3 was the only game I played until I got COD4 for christmas that year.

Having 4 years of Halo online experience I can tell you Halo 2 and 3 were just like COD is today and it still is. So please shut the **** up with that little kid argument. It's the same argument the COD fanboys used against Halo 3 when COD4 first came out, but looks what game is on top now.


yes i'm a kid(15),but the reason i even got an xbox was halo,i wasn't amazing but i was a 42 on halo3,didn't care for reach.cod,yes is easier to level up but unless i'm in a party i find the competition to be better, but that could have to do with my 3.27 overall ratio.cod fans please just ignore this story so you don't start a flame war and halo fans don't worry halo should be okay.ps. halo isnt just jumping anymore,now its **** jet packs and crap(reach blows),jk if you want a game that is mostly jumping and wall bouncing then play gears.

well yes,but to most people "kid" is anyone that is younger,like 17 and younger...and when i got halo&cod4,i was either 11 or 12 so that's my main reason in saying that.
