Hideaki Nishino, Sony‘s Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, said during a recent interview with Famitsu that 2023 is going to be a “very important” year for the PS5 — hardly a surprise given the amount of games slated to launch during the next 12 months.

A Google translation of the article reveals that Nishino-san teased, “I can’t talk about specifics at this time, but I hope you will look forward to next year.” He described 2023 as a “very important” time for the company’s flagship console, pointing to software release including Final Fantasy XVI and Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Elsewhere, the executive was quizzed about the PS5 stock issues, where he suggested that the aftermath of the system’s November 2020 launch was actually a more challenging period for Sony than the build-up to release. However, Nishino noted that things are improving and that the console maker is aiming to sell-through 37 million units by the end of March 2023.

Sony is of course long-rumored to be working on a new version of the PS5 featuring a detachable disc drive, with the hardware supposedly launching in Fall 2023. According to leaker Tom Henderson, the detachable disc drive test kit is now in developer hands and working flawlessly.
