Yesterday a new, PSN-enabled custom firmware for hacked PlayStation 3 consoles launched, compatible with the official firmware 4.25 release. This type of hack isn't new, and previously Sony has been able to update its firmware to sufficiently quell the hackers' reach. Following the custom firmware launch yesterday, however, was the release of the PlayStation 3's LV0 keys.

In theory, the LV0 decryption keys make is easy to decode any system update to the PlayStation 3, Eurogamer writes. The LV0 keys allow PS3 firmware to be decrypted on PC, and then re-encrypted with firmware 3.55 keys to run on hacked consoles.

A group called "The Three Muskateers" takes responsibility for the LV0 keys, but not the leak itself. That's all thanks to a new Chinese hacking group, "BlueDiskCFW," who planned to release and charge for custom firmware updates using The Three Muskateers' LV0 keys. To stop BlueDiskCFW from profiting off the keys, the Muskateers released them.

"You can be sure that if it wouldn't have been for this leak, this key would never have seen the light of day," The Three Muskateers write in a statement. "Only the fear of our work being used by others to make money out of it has forced us to release this now."

Whats a RGH, a "hacked" xbox. Whats a JTAG, a "hacked" xbox. Whats a DEV KIT, a "hack"/stolen xbox. Whats a SDX, a "hacked/stolen" xbox.

A flashed console is a hacked console and is the closest hack compared to the firmware hacks of the PS3. Flashed consoles play online. Your argument is invalid.


Flashed xbox's are not hacked, they just have different cd drive cables making it able to read pirated disks.

seems to me they hacked the ps3 network. not the console. no one can actually hack xbox network. only modify consoles to their wants..


They hacked the Firmware and that's the first since Geohot's 3.55 hack. XBOXs are hacked mostly by anyone because flashing is consider a hack. You change the drive firmware to read burned games. Which can be backups or illegal copies so ya it is a hack.


They don't go online though. And if some manage to do so they're banned, and what they can do online is very limited if they want to keep their console. Unlike PS3 where once they're hacked and go online, they can do whatever they want.


Really? You made me laugh, PS3 jailbreaks can never go online it's instant ban. Unlike xbox people ca go online with flashed consoles and rgh with A risk of getting banned. Some don't even get banned or bypass it and host the many lobbies we see today. I'm not saying some people don't bypass psn ad somehow get online, they and host lobbies just like the 360 just not as much as it.


This whole conversation is stupid...xbox is clearly better in the security side of things...microsofts firewall and security system has prob. never been breached...other than the leaking of games but hello gamestop gets games in early, of course someone knows the manager and gets a copy for free. But the price i would go with PSN, but right now xbox is the main way to go because of the unlimeted xbox live gold method.

ps3's cant be banned they don't have console id's there is no way for them to track your ps3, its most likley your IP in which is banned
