Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom file size makes it Switch's largest game

4.1
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the largest first-party Nintendo Switch game ever made, at least in terms of file size.

Reddit user bob4978135 noted that the Japanese eShop entry for Tears of the Kingdom shows that the game’s total file size is 18.2GB.

The file size is also listed as 18.2GB on the US Nintendo site, and is listed as 18,637MB on the UK Nintendo site.

This is more than Nintendo‘s current largest game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is 14.4GB in size.

For comparison, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is 14GB, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition is 13.7GB, Fire Emblem Engage is 13.4GB and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is 13.2GB.

It should be noted that this is only the biggest first-party Nintendo game, and not the biggest Switch game in general.

There are a number of third-party Switch games that still dwarf Tears of the Kingdom in terms of file size, the most notable being NBA 2K23 which takes up 53.7GB.

Other large-capacity games on Switch include Mortal Kombat 11 (32.5GB) and The Witcher 3: Complete Edition (31.5GB).

Earlier this week, Nintendo released an extensive new gameplay trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The video debuted during a Nintendo Direct broadcast on Wednesday, followed by confirmation that the game will retail for $70, the first time Nintendo is charging more than $60 for a standard Switch game.

Nintendo’s description for the game reads: “In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above.

“Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?”

CalicoReidso good for them making the game the largest for the Switch

Why is it good for them? I guess it was necessary but more annoying than anything for users...

Yes, but at least SD cards can be used to increase it!

Hahaha and it's still like 12x smaller than any recent Call of Duty game on console!
