As recently revealed on Twitter by David Gibson, senior analyst at MST Financial, the PS5 has now sold over 3 million units in Japan since its launch. It has, impressively enough, hit that milestone in 121 weeks, which is faster than what the PS3 (125 weeks) and PS4 (131 weeks) managed.
Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that the console’s global supply shortages were easing up, and that it was now much easier to find at retail than it has been since its late 2020 launch. The PS5 has been outselling the Switch as the best-selling console in Japan for a number of weeks running now, and that was the case once again last week, having sold over 78,000 units during the course of the week, as compared to over 66,000 units for the Switch.
The full Japanese hardware and physical software charts will be going live later today, so stay tuned for those.
Japan - PS5 has now sold 3m! That is in 121 weeks surpassing the PS3's 125 weeks and the PS4's 131 weeks! Last week PS5 (78k) outsold Switch again (66k). #PS5
