Dead Cells: Return To Castlevania Seems Due For A PS5 Release

3.8
It seems like the Castlevania crossover with Dead Cells will be getting an official PlayStation 5 release, as the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has provided an official T for Teen rating on its website, as pointed out on Twitter by Gematsu.

The fourth official paid DLC for Dead Cells, Return to Castlevania made its debut earlier this month, on March 6, for PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. However, PlayStation 5 was mysteriously left off the initial release list even though its generational Xbox counterpart was included in the party. Developers Motion Twin and Evil Empire had announced the collaborative project back in December, providing a sort of revival for the Castlevania series, which has lain mostly dormant for nearly a decade. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 released in early 2014 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and remains the most recent official title in the series.

Not much is known at this point as to what the PlayStation 5 version will entail, although it will likely include the base game and the Return to Castlevania expansion. There is also currently no word on whether this edition will receie a physical release or will only be available in a digital format.

Originally released in 2018, after an early access release the previous year, Dead Cells is a 2-D action platformer that has players exploring an ever-changing castle. With the developers drawing on inspiration from the Castlevania games of old, the newest paid DLC has been a bit of a love letter to the vampire-hunting series that debuted back in the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

In an interview from earlier this month, game supervisor Tsutomu Taniguchi indicated that the success of Dead Cells and the production team's desire to partner with Castlevania on the collaborative project has been reinvigorating for Konami, Whether that means that we may eventually see a new vampire-slaying adventure featuring the Belmont clan is year to be seen, but fan reception to Return to Castlevania certainly won't hurt its prospects.
