Diablo 4 Players Call for Gem Storage Quality of Life Improvement

3.8
Diablo 4 players are asking Blizzard to change the game's inventory system to make Gems easier to store. While the game isn't set for release until June 6, Blizzard launched Diablo 4's open beta on March 24, and it runs until today at 11 AM Pacific/2 PM Eastern. This lets fans get an early look at the upcoming action-RPG dungeon crawler.

Blizzard released the first Diablo in 1997, and it's still considered one of the greatest action-RPGs of all time. The series takes place in the dark fantasy world of Sanctuary after the events of 2014's Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. The previous game's events saw both the Demons and Angels significantly weakened, allowing the newly-returned demon Lilith to establish a foothold in the mortal world. Players choose between several classes before embarking on their quest to defeat Lilith and her followers.

The Diablo 4 beta is not without problems and limitations, and some players are asking for Blizzard to create a separate storage space for Gems. Reddit user Amazing_Watercress_4 brought this up in a post on the Diablo subreddit. They pointed out how it's not only weird for adventurers to have random loose Gems unsecured in their backpacks, but it's doubly strange that Gems take up the same amount of inventory space as a piece of armor. The Diablo 4 player wants Blizzard to create a separate inventory tab for Gems. They also want Gems to take up a single inventory space instead of two.

Diablo 4 Desperately needs seperate Gem storage!

The post gained a lot of traction on the Diablo subreddit, with other users discussing how silly it is that Diablo 4 doesn't have a Gem category in the inventory. As one commenter pointed out, the game already has 30 slots for elixirs, which is much more than players need. And while there has been some speculation about why exactly the game has so many elixir slots, there's no reason developers couldn't also create a separate tab for Gems.

Fortunately, Blizzard is aware of Diablo 4's inventory management issues. YouTube channel AnnacakeLIVE recently interviewed senior Blizzard developers Joe Shely and Rod Fergusson, covering various topics related to Diablo 4. The YouTuber specifically mentioned the issue of Gems cluttering up the inventory and asked about the possibility of a separate inventory tab. While Shely and Fergusson didn't definitively say yes to that idea, they confirmed that Blizzard knew about the problem and was looking for solutions.

Diablo 4 releases on June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
