Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy Announced By Frozenbyte

Developer Frozenbyte and publisher THQ Nordic have announced Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy, the fifth instalment in the Trine series.

Rumours have been circulating for months regarding a new Trine game, with the title now being confirmed. According to the announcement trailer, Trine 5 will be released during the summer of 2023.

Trine 5 will feature a villainous duo as its main antagonists. This enterprising pair has constructed an army of clockwork soldiers, hence the subtitle of Trine 5. The game will also be the longest in the series yet, according to Frozenbyte’s marketing manager Kai Tuovinen.

An exciting feature of Trine 5 is the scalability of its puzzles and combat. Frozenbyte has put extra time into making Trine 5 fully customisable, allowing the player to change the difficulty of the puzzles, combat and more individually.

The environments themselves don’t change based on the difficulty of a puzzle, but rather, something extra is often required to complete the puzzle. It’s quite a pleasant approach to puzzle design, making it a nice addition.

Another new feature of Trine 5 is the addition of skill trees for each playable character. You’ll be able to upgrade various parts of the characters, with each character having individual skill quests, essentially solo missions that reward you with a skill for that character.

During a press event that DualShockers attended for the announcement of Trine 5, we asked Tuovinen and THQ Nordic’s Reinhard Pollice what part of Trine 5 they were most excited about.

“I think just in general, the variety of puzzles and fights, different abilities that you need and of course, co-op is a fan favourite,” Tuovinen answered.

“I’m personally most excited for the boss fights. I think this is the Trine game with the most elaborate boss fights. Coming straight out of user experience tests, it’s been interesting how people discover the boss mechanics,” Reinhard replied enthusiastically.

Trine 5 is planned to release this summer for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
