Nintendo Switch Successor Development “Progressing Well”

3.7
The Nintendo Switch has now sold over 125.62 million units worldwide, but with the console having entered the seventh year of its life, it’s no surprise that its sales are slowing down. In fact, Nintendo has said that even its projection of 15 million shipments in FY 2023/24 is “a bit of a stretch”. Naturally, questions about a Switch successor are beginning to be asked with greater frequency.

And though Nintendo has said that it won’t be releasing any new hardware this fiscal year, report have also repeatedly insisted that work on the company’s next console is indeed underway, which has now been reported once again by Nikkei Asia. Citing a source close to Nintendo, the outlet claims that development on the Switch successor is “progressing well”. That said, the company isn’t planning to launch the new console before Spring 2024 “at the earliest”.

The Switch has seen a notable slowdown in terms of new releases as well. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is due out later this week, while Pikmin 4 is also on the horizon, though reports have claimed that Nintendo doesn’t have any more major first party releases planned for the Switch beyond that. Recent leaks also stated that the company doesn’t have its usual annual June Nintendo Direct presentation planned this for this year.
