The game's official Twitter account confirmed on Friday that Quantum Error is "a hair away from going gold," an industry term indicating that the game is essentially finished with development and awaiting release. This should be exciting news for fans who have been in anticipation of playing it since its announcement back in 2020. But while the news of the next step toward release is a positive one, it was punctuated with what some perceived as a dig against the hardware of the Xbox Series X|S, and an indication that its storage system has been problematic for the developers.
We will have a couple gameplay videos lined up to show off as soon as we can announce everything đ

We have started looking into optimizing the game for Xbox, but it is definitely going to take a bit of time unfortunately; QE has been made to be played with the PS5âs extremelyâŚ
"QE has been made to be played with the PS5âs extremely fast SSD, the Xbox SSD is quite a bit slower and so we are going to have to change things quite a bit to make up for that difference in speed," the tweet reads, in part. After facing some apparent backlash for the initial announcement the Twitter account issued a clarification around eleven hours later, stating that the original message was not meant as an insult against the Xbox hardware; rather, it was simply the developers' attempt to be forthcoming with the issues they were having at getting the game to run at an appropriate speed on that console.
However , the clarification Tweet did contain one phrase that could herald the arrival of Quantum Error on PlayStation 5 before it arrives on Xbox Series X|S. "We will not release the Xbox version until it is ready and want Xbox fans to be able to enjoy the game experience and quality as much as PS5 fans," it states.
We want to set the record straight that answering a question honestly was in no way us bashing Xbox for anything, all we did was point out the current issue that we have come across and that we will have to spend more time to fix it. A different platform may require differentâŚ

Quantum Error's developers had confirmed way back in late 2020 that their game would be available on Xbox Series X, despite the recent announcement that it was specifically designed to run on PlayStation 5 hardware.
Also of note in the recent string of Tweets is that footage of the Quantum Error that has been released online is outdated, as that footage is running on a build of the game that uses Unreal Engine 4, and the current build of the game runs on the much-improved Unreal Engine 5.2. So, while some fans may have to wait a little longer than they anticipated to step into the boots of Fire Captain Jacob Thomas, the game's visual appeal should be an improvement on what we've been shown so far.
