PlayStation 5 is Sony's latest console, and the company has continued to research new ideas and features ever since the console's launch in 2020. One of the company's latest projects is the new PS5 Access Controller, which is targeted toward improving gameplay experiences for disabled gamers. Most recently, Sony patented new MMO server technology to aid processing and the allocation of computing tasks for its upcoming online titles.
Sony published a new patent for an AI-based in-game system that will help gamers manage their time while playing popular third-party titles and PlayStation's biggest exclusive games. Specifically, the patent details an in-game system that gives players an estimate of how long it will take them to beat a certain piece of content based on their skill level and their equipment. Additionally, this new feature will warn the player about potential scheduling conflicts while playing a game. For example, the AI system will inform the player that their current in-game task may take longer than the average completion time due to the player's level and equipment. The patent also explains that the system is capable of warning the user that the estimated completion time for in-game task will clash with the scheduling of one of the user's favorite shows.
Sony's new AI system will also give PlayStation fans suggestions and tips to help them prepare for an in-game objective or complete a level more quickly. This feature is possible through an intricate information system that analyzes in-game content, user effectiveness, and other factors in order to provide the user with recommendations. The system is able to adapt through machine learning-based algorithms, so Sony may be able to provide more accurate recommendations and tips as users continue to play their favorite games and utilize the new feature.
The patent shows the AI system working with God of War: Ragnarok for PlayStation 4 as an example of how players will directly interact with the feature. Although Sony's patents may not guarantee that new features and hardware are coming soon, if at all, this particular system may be implemented through firmware that millions of PlayStation fans can easily access.
The new AI system could be very useful to PlayStation gamers since it will allow them to improve time management skills and receive recommendations based on their play style. A new PlayStation 5 firmware update could introduce this feature, but Sony has yet to detail its plans for upcoming firmware following last month's performance update. Patents are filed all the time and never used, so fans should keep that in mind as well.
