Call of Duty development offer declined by Gearbox

You may be familiar with Gearbox, they are the company who developed Borderlands. Well, reports are coming out that Gearbox has turned down an opportunity to develop a Call of Duty game because their studio boss Randy Pitchford "saw no real challenge" in it.

During an interview several months ago with the German site KGN, Randy Pitchford stated that Gearbox only develops a game "when we can contribute to an existing brand something new - a kind of unique perspective and a new approach."

Mr. Pitchford does not feel that opportunity is present with the Call of Duty series.

Seeing how important the Call of Duty series is to Activision, and how dominant the game is due to a set formula the previous developers have followed each year, Pitchford went on to question just how much flexibility his studio would even have if they were to pursue the next Call of Duty.

Pitchford stated, "You have to play by the rules of the series." He then stated, "You have to do what is expected of a Call of Duty. In this I see but no real challenge for us. It would not strengthen our reputation as a studio, it would not be really motivating for our team."

The game is exhausted, And really nothing has changed, same engine, same killstreaks, Same well... Everything. same engine because they can't make a superior engine that will work with technology from ten years ago. sure you could maybe tweak the engine but whats the point. they do fine with just changing the graphics. and same killstreaks? have you ever played cod yet? sure there is a uav on every cod but are you telling me there shouldnt be? and your tellning me that ur beloved cod4 looks and acts the exact same as blops2? seriously kid.


Let's take a look at Crysis. They seriously stepped their game up after the release of Crysis 2. They made an engine people were happy playing with and it was different than the first, and now Crysis 3 has a different engine from Crysis 2 and it's set to make the console push itself to the limit. So what's not to understand that they're not even trying anymore. Killstreaks, Mortar strike (WAR, BO) = Lightning Strike (BO2)... Every Chopper Lurking Killstreak (Cod4,MW2,BO,MW3,BO2). Predator Missile (MW2, MW3, BO2) There are other examples but you get the point. Even if another CoD comes out its gonna be the exact same thing with the same perks in different slots and the same game style. Anyone who can pick up a CoD game from CoD4 and on can play just about any other CoD game. Can you play Gears 1 and do the exact same as if you would playing Gears 2 or 3? NO. CoD isn't the same after firing the original creators. Respawn Entertainment will put an end to CoD.


Why change something that works? Look at Gears sales..they better start changing ****.

Gears of War did really good actually because people love the campaign and only the brave and skilled play multiplayer since it takes a whole lot of skill in order to hold your own in such a game. Bottom line, CoD has been the same and its a shame that Activision doesn't even want to experiment with anything anymore. They'll give treyarch or whoever is making the game specific guidelines that they have to follow if they don't like it, they're sure to lose the contract. CoD isn't bad, its just exhausted as F.-uck and frankly how many people even try anymore? I sure don't all I do in BO2 is piss people off in hardcore.


The iPhone sells are going down because their are better phones coming out every month. Besides Halo 4, COD currently has no competition, and COD outsold Halo 4. So trying to compare COD to the iPhone is a bad comparison. I know a lot of people who try, so that's also a pretty stupid point.

And modders.

All the CoDs were fine with 1 modded lobby every 1000 games.

But now the ratio of finding a modder is 99/100 :/


Saddens me.

MW2 Is scarce with modding, People with jtags have the advantage no leeching :)

CoD after Black ops 1 is a waste. TBH black ops 1 is really good


I only find modders when i play CoD 4, and trickshotters don't really ruin my game at all because they are pretty easy to kill.
