Even though the Call of Duty franchise has always put more emphasis on its multiplayer offerings than its single player campaigns, the latter remains an important aspect of the series that many in the fanbase look forward to every year. This year’s campaign, however, seems to be attracting criticism from those who have played it.

The upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s campaign recently became available in early access to those who pre-ordered the game, following which, reports have emerged that it’s a surprisingly brief experience at just four hours long (with some claiming it can be finished in just three hours), which is roughly half as long as the campaign in last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty campaigns have, of course, traditionally been pretty short experiences, though a runtime of four hours is short even by the series’ standards.

Several Call of Duty-focused content creators have published their impressions of the campaign after having finished it, which have been largely critical of its offerings, For instance, TheGamingRevolution has called it “pointless filler” and “unbelievably poorly written”, with ModernWarzone calling it “lackluster” and “very disjointed”. JGOD’s impressions are similar, saying that it was “over in the blink of an eye”.

On the multiplayer side of things, Modern Warfare 3 is set to feature only remastered versions of maps from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. The game also features a fully open world Zombies experience.

Prior to Modern Warfare 3’s announcement it was claimed that Activision had originally planned on not releasing a new Call of Duty game in 2023, with the plan being to release single player and multiplayer DLC for last year’s game, before the decision was made to bundle that content together and release it as a new, full-priced entry in the series.

Recently, it was reported that Modern Warfare 3 doesn’t have a Platinum Trophy on PS5, with its Trophies instead coming in the form of a DLC Trophy list for last year’s game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to launch globally on November 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
